Using this preamp setup into a micro power section or a power amp for a few upcoming gigs and rehearsals - it sounds incredible

Point of the story being, I want any and all dirt pedals that Frank designs!

So I happened upon a photon fuzz in the classifieds instead of waiting for my name to come up on the current build list, and I'm really glad I did. It is an amazing little box. For starters, it makes an amazing clean, clean-ish, or dirty preamp. With bite set towards CCW and drive low there is tremendous clarity and punch as an overdrive that is strongly reminiscent of the transboost circuit Frank designed with John k. You can run it as a light OD and the octave footswitch will still transform it into a gnarly fuzz. I'm absolutely in love with it as a slight dirty preamp right now and haven't seriously explored it's capabilities as a fuzz, which I'll do in time. (I'm actually really glad to have this now older version with the mid control since that's quite handy for the preamp role). But wow, this thing is a gem.

Yes, right now 3 and 5 are on. I plan to experiment a bit with this

Thanks! Switch 3 is for a 4KHz low-pass octave filter and switch 5 is for a 110Hz pre-fuzz high-pass filter. I never received much feedback about the filter switches, that's why I am asking.

For me, 5 and 6 are really useful so far in shaping the character of the sound. There is a pretty big difference in how big the low end is between 55 and 220, at least how I have it set, and I'm finding 110 in the middle to be just right. I'm not experienced enough with it yet to totally have a handle on how the eq functions across these different settings, like what happens at 220 plus boosting low, vs 55 and cutting low, that kind of thing. But I'm liking the flexibility

The clean filters haven't been to my liking, but I'm also not using it as a heavy fuzz (yet!), and I use flats so there's not a lot of extra stuff up high to worry about, and a little roll off around 4-5k suits me well. Full range with a lot of clean blended in has sounded great with the slightly dirty preamp sound I'm liking.

The octave filters are interesting for how different the three possibilities are. I need more time here...

The clean or dry filter frequencies of full-band, 1.6KHz and 160Hz were selected for very different uses. The full-band is what most people would use IMO. But the 160Hz filter turns the dry level control into a clean bass blend that works well with the pre-fuzz (5 & 6) filters, off for a high-pass freq of 220Hz.

I hope that the filter switches allows most people to tailor this pedal for their own tastes.

Both the first version and the MK2 have the same internal filter switches.

Pre-fuzz high-pass:
55Hz
110Hz
220Hz

Dry (clean) low-pass:
Full-band
1.6KHz
160Hz

Octave low-pass:
Full-band
4KHz
500Hz

i have a dedicated pedal that does that it's a passive band pass.. but make me want your fuzz more.. i am getting a broughton audio hplp pedal as well.. i got a gamma pedal.. want a transboost and a brimstone audio cross over distortion and crosover fuzz.. prolly a mixer as well. damn that's a lot of gas..lol

No man thanks to you I've been daydreaming for almost two years .... Trying to convince myself that yours will be my last fuzz purchase ever!

Two years watching youtube videos, reading the forums hoping that some crazy GAS maniac would sell his photon fuzz to fund another impusive purchase....

Searching from time to time at ebay and reverb to see if finally....

Once your pedal arrives that joy is over... and I will have to accept the reality that my playing sucks

The MK2 Photon is a little different from the first version in those Youtube videos. I hope the new features will be seen as an improvement. So if the pedal is improved, then by some type of logical reasoning your playing should also improve.

Just got my notification for the Photon II and ordered immediately
