is this really happening?! Do you think you will be able to fulfill all orders... I believe that I got in the list almost 18-20 month ago

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you, and everyone else who is on the Photon Fuzz notification list. Some of you have been waiting nearly 3 years for the new version / build, and everyone with which I've corresponded has been extremely nice and understanding.

It just goes to show that musicians really are the best kind of people (most of the time)! :D

My long story, short: My heavy/prog/psych trio of 10 years went on hiatus almost a year ago, and for the first time ever since starting bass 15 years ago, I put my bass down for almost a year :rollno:...I do believe this will be the impetus to start going again. I'll definitely post some videos when I get the chance in the coming weeks. Cheers, Frank.
 
Frank, (forgive me TB if this has been covered in the thread already) have you A/B'ed mki and mkii? Noticeable differences to report? I sold my mki recently, so there goes my chance to make an A/B video.

We have compared the two versions and there are some differences to report. First, I will point out the things that are pretty much the same as the original.

· The character of the dirt has very similar characteristics, but the gain on the mk2 is twice as much. So, the same tone is found earlier in the drive knob rotation.

· The bite control is the same.

· The octave fuzz is the same.

· The internal DIP switch filters are the same.

Basically, the dirt generation circuits have carried over from the original with no or minor tweaks.

The things that are different are:

· Buffered bypass to significantly reduce the “pop” when engaging or disengaging high gain fuzz.

· 4 Layer PCB with ground plane to reduce high gain circuit noise.

· ACNR (Active Coring Noise Reduction) circuit. This can be used as a background noise reducer or with heavier settings, a ‘gate’ effect.

· The original 3-band EQ, with its high and low controls configured as shelving types, was replaced with a 2-band EQ. The high band is no longer a 5KHz shelving type that controls all of the frequencies up to the end of the audio spectrum. It is now an EQ control that is centered around 3KHz, so the high control is more of a high-midrange/low-treble control.

I think that this covers the differences between the new and original versions.

Hey, I've used my DE-CL basically as a preamp (being the only thing between my bass and a DI) at a few gigs.
The warmth feature give it just that extra juiciness.

Here's how it sounds (Dingwall SJ4, pick/fingers/slap, turning the pedal on halfway through each section)

I can honestly say that due to your excellent communication throughout the waiting period, I didn't mind at all being on the waiting list for 2 years, 3 months and 2 days. (Yes, I checked :D)
It were the 26 days waiting for my Photon fuzz to travel across the ocean and getting through customs that where cheer agony...:greedy:

Now, if I could only lay my hands on a Growler...

even though I love the compression characteristics of the DB-CL, the self noise the pedal generates renders it unusable for me.
There's a loud hiss even when nothing is connected to the input.
Anyone else finding the DB-CL noisy?

My DE-CL is probably the most quiet pedal I have ever had. Seems weird if the DB-CL is noisy. Something wrong with the unit perhaps? What you use to power it up?

The DB-CL and both Opti-FETs I have used had a hiss when turned on. It was almost not perceivable through an amp (very high frequency), but I play a lot direct with IEMs, and I couldn't deal with it. It also didn't seem to matter what the gain was set at - with the gain all the way off, it still hissed, and it didn't get louder even if you cranked the gain.
