All the way from the other side of the mountain, way over in Brightwood!

I have a 1/15 bastard sub built, TL-606 cab with the 3015LF and the CBG low pass. I use it with the 15/6/1 and I don't defeat the Lpad on the mid either. To my ears I still have lots of mids and highs. Adding a switch would be easy, but I doubt I will ever get around to it. The 12/6 cube with the Alpha 6 will not keep up with the big sub.

I'll build the fEarful spec sub cab the next chance I get to work in the shop.

Basic carpenter tools and low to middlin skill level are all it takes if you are patient and measure accurately. Folks have pulled it off in the kitchen with almost no tools.

That said, if you have a buddy with a basic shop and a bunch of bar clamps you should buy him beer and "help" The design makes every effort to keep the build simple.

So far I'm absolutely, positively, totally STOKED over my fEARful. I hear my playing and my bass (not necessarily a good thing, LOL!) and not the cab. If it weren't for the fact I've got crap vibrating all over my house (two rooms over, stuff on shelves moves) it would be like there was no cab at all. This cab really is all that and a bag of chips. It's LOUD and CLEAR and puts out whatever sound your fingers, bass and amp put into it.

Here's the page over at GB's forums where my malfunctioning cab was first reported and the subsequent fix actions. It's an educational read, actually.

Perfectly clear and amazingly powerful! I'm glad I had my earplugs in.

About half way on the GK, so there's even more to be had, not that I'd ever need it.

I'm just wrapping up my 15/6 tube and 15 sub build

Got a question for you experienced builders:

If you lightly put your hand on the 6NM410 midrange driver while it's playing, can you feel it vibrating?

Mine is passing sound, but it's rather quiet ... I *think* quieter than the intended -3dB pad

Yes, but it depends. DO you have the woofer hooked up as well?

Yes, I have the 3015LF connected as well.

I can feel the midrange vibrating a little, as well as hear it ... a little ... but only when I crank it.

The mid passed the battery test, and when I connected it directly to the speakon it also passed signal, but it's considerably quieter than the 3015LF.

I'm wondering if I need to chase down a cold solder or something ...

My mid (18Sound) vibrates very little as well. Try cranking a nasally midrange frequency, turn up the amp and you'll see how much sound it puts out. Also try popping a few strings. That'll get it going. At bedroom practice levels, playing fingerstyle (99% of my playing is fingerstyle) it doesn't seem like it's doing much but it's there.

If you have an mp3 player and the appropriate cable, hook it up and play some rock and roll. The mid will tear your head off. Trust me, it's hooked up. :D But do those tests to prove it to yourself. It's just padded back to blend well with the woofer.

Also what kind of bass and it's pickups will determine how much you hear out of the mid. With my SX Jazz I get very little out of there even with both coils going. With the Epiphone Ripper I get a ton of out put from the mid. Try the mp3 player through it. You'll hear it easily. If not then there's definitely a problem and I will try to help you. I've made most of the mistakes on the crossover so I'm sorta qualified to help. :D

That said, i just finished an entire evening of cranking this badboy up in my office/practice room. Gain on the XLS1500 at 60%, volume on my pre at 50% and it's PLENTY loud (what?) for practicing at home. I cranked the volume on the pre to about 75% and it was just deadly. And I've still got another 50% on the poweramp to go...and that's just a single channel at 325w. I can't imagine putting a solid 700w through this thing. For sure it would start walking across the room. I sorta have my EQ settings where they need to be. But ear fatigue started to set in and I couldn't hear the diff slight turns of the knobs made. So I stopped twiddling and just played. Soooooo sublime. Playing through it at loud bedroom levels is like driving a Porsche in fifth gear at 55 mph. You know there is so much more on tap, but the cab is content to play along with your dumb game until you get antsy and downshift two gears and nail the loud pedal. :bassist:

Cool mike. You've inspired my confidence. :)

I actually put on some roundwounds .. the bright stuff is very much present. At first it's quite difficult to tell that the mid is even working. It's blended so well with the woofer.

I'd been listening to the clips that Robby Hoinsky had put up and was expecting a lot more hi end .... of course the difference between those clips and my 15/6 tube is that my cab has no tweeter. Still, it has PLENTY of hi end for my taste. For that extra little sparkle up top a tweet is necessary.

I got corners and feet on ... now for some grills from reliable hardware ..

Wow, that is cool! How's the head held in? Are you using the mounting points on the sides of the Shuttle (where it screws into the bracket on top of the GB speaker or where you'd mount rack ears)? That looks really sharp!

I don't have any more pics of it yet, but I'll try and get some more on the weekend if people are interested. As for the design, the idea was that it slides in from the back and is then secured by the thumb screws into the mount points on the head for combo use. There's a lip on the front section that serves the dual purpose of hiding the feet from a front on view and preventing the head from sliding out the front.

In practise I've found it impossible to get thumbscrew or indeed any other screw in a 10-32 SAE thread in Perth, Australia. Let alone in the brass I'd originally hoped for. So right now the head isn't securely attached to the case.

By a happy accident though the corners overhang the head space so you can't get the head in or out with the corners on. It can move about 5mm forwards and back as is, but it stays in there. If I ever find some screws I'll file down the corners so it can be slid in and out easily, but for now its functional.

PM me your mailing address and what length you're looking for and I'll mail you some 10-32 SAE screws. Flat head, I'm assuming? (bottom part that will contact case is flat vs. v-shaped). I probably have what you need in my little parts case.

I lived overseas for quite awhile and understand what it's like to not be able to buy the simplest little things. I could've ordered them online, but who wants to pay $30 for two little bolts? I feel your pain. I'll hook you up. :)

Acquisition of all the necessary components for my 15/6 is progressing. Hopefully the build will begin shortly after.
I would love to do a grill cloth. Was told to build a frame and use velcro to mount. I know that the frame has to be built with the grill cloth thickness in mind. Ultimately I don't want it to fall off and/or rattle. Anybody have any suggestions on how to do this or can point me to a wiki?
