fEARful 1212/6, first build!!

So I recently got to try out a few different TB'ers fEARful cabs and got the itch, I haven't had success posting pics on the official Greenboy/fEARful forum so I thought I share here for now(until I get to a real computer and not my phone)...

I have some woodworking experience from years ago(I worked at 2 different cabinet shops , 1 in high school the other right after graduation)... but after reading some build thread's on the Greenboy site I got "fEARful" myself on how rusty my skills may be so I ordered the precut flatpack and deluxe kit for the 1212/6...

Keep in mind there are a few mistakes(the result of rushing through things), so far its not perfect 100%, and its still not finished but I went off a few different build threads and the YouTube instructional vid, but if I could go back I would've done a few things different...

Either way its been exhilarating building this so far, I can't wait to finish it and I strongly encourage anyone to give this a shot, its been a blast and I'm already itching to build another..

I did this as sorta a primer/time saving thing for the handles and speak on plate

I started from the bottom up, I took this idea from Kekani to paint these parts before assembly...i want it look as good as it'll sound!!

At first I tried to go without any screws, but my clamps alone were sliding out of place so I had to quickly drill pilot holes and use screws...

Looking back I would've dry fit everything, drilled pilot holes and attached all bracing before placing sides and back!! Maybe someday ill redeem myself and do it "right" the 1st time, I also used *way too much* PL...

So here I glued on bracing, I managed to keep the bracing straight on the baffle with only the clamps....

Here's some mistakes, I'm not sure if the wood bowed a little or if its my bad, but it still holds tight to baffle bracing, when I attach ill fill gap with PL...also note I ran out of the regular PL and got a different kind for wood, metal or concrete, when I attach baffle and top I'm gonna use the correct PL....

Dry fitted, found another mistake, the cross brace doesn't fit tight with back, I could fit a biscuit in the gap!! When I later dry fitted with screws I found the gap to be much smaller, so I'm gonna pl a tiny posicle stick to help fill the gap... I also used a power sander on the top of the baffle as it was too high, yet another reason to dry fit first...

I took this idea from Kekani's build thread and used some duratex as prime around handles and primer on the baffle as well..

Bugs/Rodents are a real problem where I live, so I decided to install pet screen at top of port shelf

Kekani told me that this *will* change the sound a little, I don't want that so I removed the boards that secured the pet screen before the PL dried...

This looks like crap, just terrible!! So I carefully thinned out some 1 1/2 foam(so it doesn't block too much airflow) and covered my mess....

Hopefully this only minimally affects my sound, if at all...

And here it is today!!

When the PL dried after 2-3 days I removed screws as the PL is supposed to be ridiculously strong, I filled the holes with bondo...

The way the flatpack was cut is absolutely dummy-proof, really I don't think you need much woodworking skill at all with a flat pack, thanks so much to greenboy and speaker hardware for designing these wonderful cabs and making the plans free for do-it-yourselfers'.... Totally cool. I'm still scheming for my own first build. Having decided that a pair of 12/6 cabs, built one at a time, was the way to go. Lately, though I've been thinking that the real sweet spot is the 15/6. With enough watts, it can equal a 610. With that kind of output I wouldn't really need another cab. The downside is I'm still dealing with a 50 pound lift instead of a 35. But I can probably deal with that.

By the time the funds free up to start the project, i'll have probably changed my mind again

Way cool!! The first time i played through one of these it was like a blanket was lifted from my sound, simply amazing...this 1212/6 is definitely gonna replace my Hartke 2x10 and 1x15, plus its been way too much fun building this,at some point I probably gonna build another...

I cannot stress enough how easy this is, especially with a flat pack, the only tools you really need are caulking gun and a power drill, maybe a few clamps and a table...

Since I have today off, probably unnecessary right now, but I figure it'll save some time when routing edges by sanding now.... Also I'm doing this by hand cuz I don't trust using my power sander, now if I had one of those "orbital" or DA sanders(iirc that's what they were called!!??) it'd be much easier...

Even though this is old school/doing it the hard way, I've found this to be the most enjoyable part so far, plus I really can't mess up hand sanding , good way to relieve stress going all caveman style

I hope this makes it easier/quicker when routing, I hand sanded all sides....if it doesn't make it easier, at least ill sleep good tonite

Looks like you still have foam encroaching on the interior port throat - if so = bad idea. You need free flow of air in and out of the full cross section of the port area.

Nice build. I totally agree that building these "the hard way" is the best part!

I actually was just looking at those kits. Pretty cool. Thanks for the information and keep us posted on how it turns out
