Here's the Crazy8. In deference to the superstitious the height will be changed to 13.25" on the production models.

Pole-mount top-hats optional for mini-PA setups or getting the cab up nearer you or putting it up on a woofer-only version with some distance between. They also work really nice for tilt-backs as they are lighter than the spring-loaded tilt-back legs, with a short tube/dowel or whatever is handy.

Those are really cool. I don't see myself gigging any time in the near future so these might be a better fit for me than a 12/6.

For my 15/6/1's I use a pair of scoop handles, one on each side. I wouldn't trust a strap unless it was really beefy and bolted through the top.

They cost about $6 a piece from Parts Express, made by Dayton.

I got one with three straps [one on top and one on each of the sides]... had it for over a year and gigged it a several dozen times. Could of got by with just the one on top - but the side pair is nice when you have to walk a ways with it or up stairs. D-cups might look nicer but would be overkill IMO.

Hello fEARfull people. Had a couple questions and was hoping I could get some info / thoughts / feedback here.

I'm on talkbass... so obviously I've heard of fEARfull, checked out a lot of threads, looked at the official website, art of noise, etc, etc. I can not say that I have read all 13 threads,,, so sorry if this got covered back in fEARfull part 5 or something.

I'm looking for a mid-sized, 4 ohm, one-cab-solution... so a 1212/6. For your info, I would be using the following amps with this... Fender Bassman 100, Hiwatt DR201, GB STL 600. Probably in that order, possibly a 30-50 watt tube amp as well. looking for something that can transition from a dinner gig one night to a club gig the next. Might have PA support, might not.

I am particular interested about the fEARfull with the Bassman 100. I love that amp, but with not a lot of watts, I want to get the most out of it, while still having a manageable sized cab.

My questions are...
1. For a 4 ohm load, do I have to have a 1212/6/T,, or can I just do a 1212/6?

2. I hear so much jibber-jabber about the massive low end, I'm kind of freaked out about it. The Bassman has a big low end that can kind of get away from you. Seems like it was (and it was) designed for a sealed cab. I don't want to overdo it, ya know.

3. As far as amps, anyone out there using tube amps with these cabs?

4. How will a fEARful perform with not much power... like a 100watt or smaller amp? I seem to think I've seen some posts about how these amps need a lot of power to "bloom." Or something like that.

5. Seems like (and I could be WAY off here) that most fEARfull guys are modern, 5/6 string, lots of watts, etc, etc. I kind of go for that vintage vibe thing. Passive 4 strings direct into a tube amp. Am I barking up the wrong tree here??

I have some similar questions that might be answered in overlap with yours.

From what I understand, these cabs have very good sensitivity and thats good for tube heads which generally are lower wattage than SS offerings. You wont want to use the tweeter with your tube amp, but it wont need to be incorporated to reach your required impedance. It has been outlined to me on the fEARful forum that really what you need to figure out is how loud you want to be, and then choose a cab or cabs accordingly. They are modular so you can add a sub to your main fEARful if you want later.

In 4 Ohms you are looking at a 1212/6 or a 1515/66. I plan on pairing my Classic 400 with a 1515/66, but I'm looking for more volume than good sense dictates.

It just features a different form factor to accommodate either 24"-wide tube heads when placed one way, or 26"-wide tube heads placed on the longer side. This is different than the 20" rack-width design of the regular 15/6. Also note that there is no optional tweeter cutout because most people agree that tube heads suck with tweeters.

What is the minimum/maximum wattage required?
There is no minimum. A 50 watt amp will sound very good, as will a 1000 watt amp

Will a fEARful cabinet sound good with [some amp]?
That depends on your subjective opinion. A fEARful speaker enclosure will faithfully reproduce what you put into it, so if you like the sound of the source, you will probably be happy with a fEARful.

Thanks for the info. Is that your cab in the picture? Do you have tilt-back casters on it? If so, do you like them? I'm a tall guy so kind of imagine myself all bent over trying to roll a 1212/6 with tilt-back casters. And that's no fun.

That's cool Bro. When you get a chance try working through the Amps FAQ that's stickied near the top of this (Amps) forum. You might want to register on the fEARful forum as well. There are plenty of excellent references linked in both places.

Very short Cliff Notes version, perhaps scary tech types can just suspend disbelief and derision for once: the crossover matches driver impedances by changing impedance in line and/or in parallel with the woofers and the mid/high drivers as frequency goes up or down. That allows the drivers to share primary output duties safely and (hopefully) gracefully.
