image-1189798431.png well I just can't help myself!! I have to share The Photo my fEARful's Again.....esp since we are starting a new tread!! Here's to the fEARful fEVEr may they never Find a cure!!! :D

In the last thread, I asked for some help with amp choice, as it seems my GK 1001RB-II's preamp distorts when turned up past 9 o'clock, which in turn makes me have to turn up the Woofer knob to about 2 or 3 o'clock in order to get some good volume. After thinking it over, I think I found a very cheap solution (will know for sure after a couple gigs this weekend)... I bought a BBE Boosta Grande from a fellow TB'r local to me, and I threw it in the effects loop of the GK. This way, I can set my Gain low (like around 7 o'clock), and make up the difference in volume just before the power section. I played with it last night at home, and man... with the fEARful, it is just glorious... reminiscent of being in a car with a huge sub. Needless to say my house was shaking! I thought my grill was secure, as I've not had trouble with it rattling, but it started when I turned it up. I had to give it a firm punch with my hand to get it to rattle when I'm not playing. This setup is now frightening.

Just curious:
What's wrong with having the Woofer at 2 or 3 o'clock?
I've often run mine there. Am I doing something wrong?

Nothing wrong, except maybe mentally, with me! lol

I like to have the feeling that there is more power on tap, if I need it. It seems as though the volume jump from noon to 3 o'clock is greater than from 3 o'clock to full on. Again, it may all be in my head, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

When I had my 1001 RB II I would run my woofer at 3 or 4 o'clock with the fEarful. I dimed it on occasion as well (with a high pass filter in the loop!)

When I used other cabs, my default setting was to put the Gain, Boost and Woofer at noon. I think I got used to it that way, and feel that if I go above that on the woofer, something might blow up. I dunno.

You will hear the woofer crying out before it gives - at least, I could make the 3015LF piston/distort with the 1001 rb II, but were always warning signs.

Gain staging is a thing that usually involves turning all of the knobs unfortunately.

Might want to engage your input pad and turn the gain up too if you haven't.

I knew that when I grew up, I wanted to be just like BurningSkies, so I just completed the 15Sub to go under my 15/6.

I finally get to gig the whole stack this Friday night for the first time.

Beautiful rig! As I've said before, a 15/6 is definitely enough, until you play it with a 15 sub, then you'll never want to use just one! Have you tried the 15/6 upside down? That's the configuration I use most times. I now have sets of feet on both top and bottom of mine.

And I've got discs that are about 3/4" thick neoprene (actually 3 layers of 1/4" Mousepad material), that go between the feet and my rack. No vibration rattle at all anymore.

I guess I'm a bit of the odd-man-out, but I try to keep everything as clean as possible at the amp and add distortion via my effects chain.

My typical settings: Volume/gain 9-10:00 (depending on instrument used), Boost 9:00 or lower, and Woofer to suit the situation.

The "everything at noon" settings were when I played lour hard rock, and the distortion was cool. Now, I play hip hop and classic music, so clean is what I'm going for.

Hey y'all, if anyone is in or around the Dayton, Ohio area and would let me take a test drive on their fEarful, I would be very grateful. I want to try before I buy, y'know. ;) I'll also offer up an opportunity to play anything of mine you'd like to try in return. Thanks!

Christw, if you want, why not go and visit the fEARful message board and post a thread there as well, you may find someone in your area that would let you try out their cabs.

I've got one in the Columbus area (I'm the guy who bought the Ampeg 610 and GK head from you a little while ago). I don't travel to Dayton ever, unfortunately, but it's here if you wanna try it out.

Thanks! I'll be around Columbus every once in a while so I'll be sure to send you a message before I head out next time.

Hey, Sir BurningSkies - How does flipping the 15/6 over benefit you? (Besides making it a 6/15.)

If you're standing right near your cab (within a few feet) you're getting a whole lot of that mid right in your ear. I found that what I was hearing in a small room (our practice room) or a tight stage was way more mid forward than what the cabinets were presenting further out. As I was standing at the cab to EQ what I was hearing, I was attenuating my mids needlessly, then not getting what I wanted out in the room.

By flipping the cab, I found that I was getting a much clearer picture of what my setup was really sounding like. If I'm on a big stage or I'm more than 5 feet from my cab, I tend to use it right side up, and it works fine too.

Try it both ways and see what works for you.
