Howdy, folks. I'm doing a feature store on the 'fEARful phenomenon' in our upcoming issue of Bass Gear Magazine. As many of you know, I have a couple of fEARful cabs of my own, but for this story, I'd like to feature photos of different models and also photos showing how different individuals have tricked out their fEARfuls. Finished product shots, build progress shots, gig shots, are all welcome. I make no promise that I will use each and every shot, but I will try to show a nice cross-section. Higher resolution pics are appreciated, but not absolutely necessary.

Please note, if you agree to send us a pic, then you would also be agreeing to let us use your photo in our publication and are thereby potentially giving up some of your intellectual property rights in these photos. If, after all that, you are still willing to submit your photo(s), please send them to tom at bassgearmag.com.

Thanks! :hyper:

Tom.

Tom, You are welcome to use any of my amateur build shots from my photobucket page.

Tom-

What's your deadline? I'm on the road and having a few problems with my email connectivity. Would love to send you a couple nice shots of the USS Lonnybass...

Was it consistant, or every once in a while at louder volumes? My mids would crap out only on low C# for some reason.

It was very consistent but directly related to volume (how much juice I was trying to put thru it). Say I had the amp turned up, but was intentionally playing softly; it would not do it. But the second I wailed on it and made the amp put some voltage to the cab, it would do it from that note onward.

Are you positive that this is "electrical noise" vs. "mechanical noise?" I had a loose washer on the L-pad shaft (I have a 15/6/1) and it sounded like a coin in a dryer. After that fix, that's when the "BRRAWWRR-BSSSSXXT" showed up. That was the incorrectly wired coil on the mid xover.

Ah, the joys of troubleshooting a new homebuilt cab. ;)

Particularly hard with fEARfuls because sometimes you can't tell if it's the walls, ceilings, cabinets, ductwork or other objects in earshot or the cabs! I always suggest a starting place of making sure that the mounting hardware is all well secured and it isn't the speakers vibrating against the baffle, or the handles, jackplate, etc. I found that the speaker mounting bolts needed to be pretty damned cranked to stay put. I also ended up with distortion in the lower ranges of the mid speaker, and that WAS amp based.

Tom.

Nothing special, but the shots show what a guy with no wood working experience can do with a Speakerhardware flat pack. Feel free to use any of the shots.

OK, cab update. Went to a better rehearsal space and all the rattles vanished. No risers and crappy backline gear around to shake rattle and roll. I got pure, clear bass. It was big and round, and I found myself turning down the bass knob on the amp.

I ran My Nash PB63 into an MXR Blowtorch, into the M6. The wet/dry mix was set 75% wet. I could hear the dry signal stand out if I hit with lots of force, so it overshot the compression of the fuzz. Turning the tone knob on my bass down rolled off the bright part that really stood out, leaving plenty of round top end to still cut, but blend with the fuzz.

I feel like I have a real machine now, and realize what toys I had before.

I'm still waiting to try it with a live drummer (my current project is all programmed beats).

Sweet Stuff Man!! It only Gets Better from Here!! I love seeing the reviews of people that have gotten to try the fEARful for the First Time and Find Out that it does all That the rest Of us Said it could do!!! I know for My Self it did more then i thought it would And Made my Wildest Dreams Of a Killer Bass rig Come True!!:D

Oh man--do I feel better. The biggest problem I had with the 15/6 is that I had to take it outside (on a cold day) to make sure that there were no noises. When you try a Fearful inside---you had better take everything off of the fireplace mantle!

BTW, Mike, can you post a picture of the cab you mentioned last time we spoke? You said it has a slightly different red than mine, and that the paint samples online end up drying with some variation from your expectation. I don't know if you want to disclose the specific color name here or if you can pm me with it. I'm curious how the reds look in online samples vs IRL. If I remember, you said it was a Dually, and I love how those look. I don't think it fits with Tom's request for fEARfuls for his article, but everyone loves pictures :)
