Just for comparison, getting the precut wood from Leland at speakerhardware.com is $155 plus shipping, for Baltic Birch.

Yeah and I don't think wood n shop would be doing the hooked and notches and biscuits. But they have poplar so that is something.

Gigmasters sells empty boxes too in okoume which is neat

Yes I am building Fearfuls---just been busy at first getting Crazy 8's made! Surprising amount of interest. Making a Crazy 88 right now. No problem with a 15/6. Weight should be under 40 for sure. I'd estimate at about 36# due to the fact that I use recessed drivers and round grills. I think that in fiberglass this yields a stronger cab. And an inch less deep. I've made a few improvements in the building techniques. And---not meant as a criticism of others---I won't build a cabinet without corners. It's a pain in the butt, but all corners are attached with machine screws and washers and nuts on the inside. A full metal grill on a 15/6 weighs a lot.

My Menard's has it , too. What I've heard from Greenboy and others is that even if you get a flat sheet, you better cut and glue it soon---pretty unstable stuff. I've been really trying to find poplar ply in the Midwest to no avail. Have to buy it from the coasts and then unless you're getting a shiteload it costs tons to ship. Bums me out. And the Okume is stupid expensive here. Hey Burning Skies---is that Lincoln picture from a Mark Ryden painting? I'm a contemporary art junkie and love his stuff.

Yep. Its a Ryden. I wish I could afford some of his paintings. I've been a (very) low level collector of pop-art stuff for years, from original 60's SF psychedelic posters, 1950's EC horror, screen prints of 80's-90's rock stuff, etc., and as a fan of Deco and Nouveau era graphic arts.

Its interesting theres a positive response to this...lol.. It all kinda came about from a couple guys asking.. Prices may be on the thrifty side, but i figure my cost is just lumber, and I can probably knock one out in a weekend..

The bare boxes are just that though. No finish or extra parts. All necessary cutouts, edge rounding, and surface sanding included though..

I was looking for lumber stores that cater to high end builders, cabinet makers, etc, but so many have recently gone out of business. I found one 20 miles way that can order Baltic Birch, $35 for a 1/2-5x5. Perfect for a 15/6 tube. And they will deliver it to my door for just $15. It costs about a buck a mile to operate an average car, so the delivery fee sounds reasonable.

I'll call them back to make sure it is true BB, not just birch plywood. I'll be buying it sight unseen. I'll have to discuss if it's warped, the terms of refusal, re-ordering etc. Never bought wood sight unseen before. I'm that weird guy that usually pulls out a bunch and cherry picks.

I did look at the thread on Greenboy's Forum about plywood, seems like finding suitable plywood is an issue for lots of people.

Ive actually been looking at Apple ply. Seems to be a few more layers than BB and no voids. It also comes in 4X8 sheets. Most of the cabinet makers around here like it better than BB even though it costs a little more.

Plus, when folks are awestruck by your tone, you can gesture at your cab and say, "How ya like them apples? That thar's a fEARful!"
