What's the setting time for PL Adhesive?

I gots my 3015LFs today and my Baltic Birch yesterday.

I've worked with Elmer's wood glue (45 min to set) and animal-hide glue (2 hours to set), but never with PL.

What should I expect? How much wiggle time do I have before lockdown?

if you use a few fasteners, you can charge ahead and get it done, then let it set over night at room temps. it can have some wiggle to it for a bit. i wanted to have a quick assembly, so used fasteners here and there, and let it sit over night, to find it ready to handle without any movement issues.

What kind of fasteners? Nail gun? Drywall screws?

I have pipe clamps, and was gonna go a little at a time...

(I only have two pipe clamps.)

i first used drywall screws for temp stuff, but found some german made, thin, very sharp, tiny headed 2" fasteners (star drive heads), that really seemed to do well in keeping things tight, and i could leave them in, with just a touch of spackle or wood dough to touch up after.

hey f, if you used a table saw, and have a staple gun, you'd be set. i used a skilsaw outside in near freezing temps, so i had to pre fasten, remove fasteners, PL the joints, then re fasten (close to being tight joints...meh). PL really does do well in this regard

The PL seemed to set overnight for me. I would glue & screw a section a night until mine was together. Mine should be done minus the drivers after this week-end. Dammit all if I didn't order the wrong corners though.

PL really does do well in this regard (my daughter says the finished product looks 'better' then my ht322...)

I am skilsaw and panel jig.

I though about pre-fastening... but I figured PL was so mighty I'd be able to get away with not using fasteners of any kind... I can always bust out the drywall screws. My olde TL606s must have 100,000 drywall screws in them...

I ordered drivers, etc... from Parts Express, and the stuff was here THE NEXT DAY. I didn't get the "shipping confirmation" email 'til the day after I had the drivers in my grubby hands.

The last cabs I built were 3/4" home depot ply and EV15Ls...

I could not believe how nice the baltic birch ply was (it blew my mind) and when the box with the drivers came I thought it was a mistake... there's no way TWO 15"s could be that light. I thought there was just a pair of gym socks in the box.

The set-time is temperature and humidity dependent. When I built my BFM Jacks last winter, the temp in my basement was in the 50s (F). I had to let the PL set up over night or longer before I felt safe removing the screws and clamps. I built my 12/6 during warmer temps and the PL set up MUCH quicker.

If you want PL to set up quicker, moisten the joints with water before gluing.

I've been reading past posts about your's and greenboy's separate top cabs for mid/hi drivers. Has anyone considered trying one of those vintage Altec 511 or 811 horns driven with a compression driver? I've never heard them, but they do have a retro sort of look.

I don't know if anyone's noticed it but things are way different at the fEARful wiki these days. For one thing, it links directly to http://www.talkbass.com/wiki/index.php/FEARful without needing a redirect. For another, now it's obvious the main item of interest there now is the BUILDS IN PROGRESS OR COMPLETED directory which I've filled with a lot of "personal" pages I've started for people who've shown cab and/or crossover pictures here. Look around!

Anyone else needs one and doesn't know how to do it, or who wants to add content and needs help, ASK HERE : } ...More content always welcome, and pictures there have staying power that ones in threads don't.

On that note, I'm looking for beauty shots and gigging shots of cabs for possible use on the fEARful web index, and you can email me via my TalkBass profile to get an ftp login to upload photos to me. Ginormous takes longer to upload but I'm all right with it if you are. I'm fine with some cropping and image processing too. Send a cover email IDing them and with any added inffo you'd care to supply, or do your uploads in a subdirectory using your talkbass handle and leave a txt or rtf in there.

Believe it or not, the <$15 Pyle waveguide that Duke uses blows 'em away. Altec and JBL both made some really cool looking stuff back then though, for sure. Here's another one of my favorites:
