+1 to this. One of my college roommates built a system with one of those 811 horns, and it sounded like a megaphone. Impressive looking, not so good sounding. And yes, he took great care to get the crossover point right. They're very efficient and can fill an auditorium, though.

I'm amazed some of the tractrix and exponential stuff still has a following. It's more like a vintage car mindset though, and woodhorn lookism is in vogue. Easier to build the old horn geometries.
Not in the pro world though. Constant Directivity is the way, and the better modern waveguides are all CD devices with additional design sophistication.

From your description of "sounded like a megaphone", I suspect that an equalization section was needed in the crossover.
crappy cell phone pic but vlad did a fantastic job on my fearb and headcase that i had him build me a sub so i could run my mesa carbine at 4 ohms. it's ridiculously loud and deep. but oh so good. vlad is the man! kudos to greenboy as well for the design. if you guys are ever in madison beer is on me!

srsly. this rig is at least 6'5 im going to need to install a beer holder on the side since it's out of reach on top.
probably won't gig with the sub most of the time but when we play bigger shows it's coming with me

hey f, if you used a table saw, and have a staple gun, you'd be set. i used a skilsaw outside in near freezing temps, so i had to pre fasten, remove fasteners, PL the joints, then re fasten (close to being tight joints...meh). PL really does do well in this regard

These are large corners. You'll need a 1/4" radius to match their curve, and I ended up trimming the front edge so they didn't overhang the half inch ply.

I have to thank you for already putting some time into your personal page. These things are cool to look at, but more importantly they can help Those Who Are About To Build. So I salute you! - all those who have contributed by adding so much to the fEARful wiki.
Well my cabs are done, but right now so is comcast internet in the twin cities! Phones are bad web browsers!
I was initially worried about the poweramps i have, but the cabs are insanely loud with my Trace AH500x. At 8 ohms the amp is rated something like 180 watts a side and with the master at 4 or 5 out of 10 the sound is huge! I have been using Epifani 210 and 212 in a stack for over a year now and I was taken aback by how much deeper the fearful is with my 5 string.
