I had been suspicious of my gasketing job on the woofer (I didn't). I figured since there was a foamy-looking circle that it was good enough. The other day I took the weatherstrip around to both drivers. Also I got the grille to rattle less and I trimmed the polyfill a little bit so it doesn't hang down into the port. I took it to rehearsal last night and I think there's been progress. The cab is tighter without being boomy. Both guitarists have said that the sound of the whole band has changed. Bass volume is pegged, blend is on the detent and the three-band is all pegged. SD1200 is gain at 9:00, master at 11. Low, mid high and high are flat, but the low mid is set to +8 at about 200 Hz. VLE is at 9:00. This has so far taken care of my issues. I also lightened up on my touch and started plucking over the bridge pickup. I think there's been progress, and I like it!

Guys - with all the best wishes and intentions... **** poly-fill and **** foam... put a nice thick liner of plain unfaced fluffy fiberglass in your cabs. Try it - you'll like it.

Really... its physics not hyperbole [its also cheap - which is nice].

Are you talking about fiberglas insulation? R-11 is 3-1/2" thick.

Home Depot has R-6 in something like 2 foot by 6 or 8 foot rolls. Two inches thick, and three rolls perfectly filled two 15/6s (at about $12). It was simple to cut and a few bursts of spray on adhesive easily keep it in place.

I did use leftover Polyfill my mother had for the midrange cabinet, but she sews and quilts for hobby and has bags of it sitting around.

Sounds like a good recipe to overdrive from your bass again. If you're boosting all three, you're just pushing up the overall volume of the instrument, and you're getting no real advantage out of things besides goofing up your gain structure.

I would assume all three boosted wouldn't be the same frequency response as everything unboosted. Sigurd, perhaps you should start from there and add to taste - everything boosted probably isn't doing you any favors.

That sounds like a recipe for someting really un-organic sounding to me. You playin' metal ?

yep... try unfaced batts [no paper or foil]... r11 works fine. i just staple it in place.

I used the white unfaced 2" stuff that Nightlyraider mentioned above. Only a couple dollars for a roll, which easily did my 12/6. I stuffed the mid chamber with poly I pulled from an old couch pillow.

Polyfill doesn't itch, and you don't need a dust mask. Worth it at $7 a bag. YMMV!

I really hate fiberglass insulation, in all its colors and various forms.

I'm underway with the current spec 12/6 cube.

Spent some shop time with the table saw today, and have the big parts all cut. I just took my time and enjoyed myself.

I came up with a really simple but slow method for gluing up the parts. This pic will explain it:

Rip fences are handy!
