Fender 2012 basses

Played the american standard fretless yesterday, it was the first time I played a fretless or a fender bass (played guitars by fender, but not basses) and I was blown away by how cool it was! Fantastic tone, and the neck was FANTASTIC!!! beautiful finish and the feel of the fingerboard was just sooooo nice. I can't afford a MIA fender, but i've decided to buy the squier vm fretless and put hardware on it that matches the MIA one, just cheaper.

That fender is so nice though! I just bought a set of flats for my fretted bass purely because of that bass! :D :D :D

As many have mentioned, the new American Fender basses are premium products. I was never a Fender fan, but suddenly I own a 2011 P5 and a 2012 Dlx. Jazz V. I also have a Lakland Skyline 55-02, and the feel and playability of my Fenders is better than the Skyline (which is a damn fine instrument as well).

I play a Modulus that to me I thought could never dethroned. Well even though I still play the modulus I'm blown away by this bass. I finally have 2 basses I plan on playing a very long time. . I was in your situation a few weeks back waiting on my fender.

It arrived and holy cow! I used to own a custom shop fender jazz. Best neck ever - until this one. Wow. Plays like buttah.

Are they any different than a 2011, I just bought a used 2011 from guitar center last week for 800, it had a fat scratch on the back (like as if someone put a knife on their belt and humped it on the same spot a couple times.) My wife had some paint of sorts and filled it in, polished it up, it just looks like a bad case of belt buckle rash now. Beyond that, I got it setup by mike lull, plays like a dream and looks perfect from the front.

Snap! My 2012 AmStd is sunburst with the maple neck too. Impressed that it plays so well out of the case - mine needed a set up but after that it was just perfect.

I don't string mine through the body anymore - my tech suggested stringing it through the bridge to support the vintage tone of the pick ups and that works for me. Sounds funky!

There are a few other differences. One is the finish on the back of the neck. It's "satin" but not in the Ernie Ball fashion. Just feels "pre-worn" but in a good way. Also, allegedly the finish is a little thinner. Either way the 2012 Jazz I just got has a neck that feels like the Custom Shop I used to own and it is LIGHTER than my 08 Am Std P-bass ... My go to bass for the last 3 years.
