Thanks, and you are positive they are a direct replacement?

Yep

Here is my 2018 limited edition ocean turquoise, its awesome. For those of you looking to get a MIM Player, get the ocean turquoise. For whatever reason, the pickups are hotter and fatter sounding than the other Player P basses. At least a handful of us here have noticed it when comparing the OT to the other Player Ps in store and there is another thread about it. They are on sale again at MF for only $599 this weekend too! Killer deal.

Honestly.... you wont get that AVRi 63 Pbass sound . The neck on AVRi are the essential.

and why not? all that's left is the wood at that point.

HAHA edit, i see the blue text now. The neck is the worst part for me. I don't have big hands and it hurts to play for more than a song or two... and this is after years 2 years of conditioning on that neck. It's fun to play but very inefficient and fatiguing.

I have a couple of questions for Players Series owners. What did you replace the strings with? These stock Fender strings leave stains on my fingers, and they're generally cheapo. I'd like to stick with roundwounds, but maybe cut down on the brightness a tad. I'm running this through a Bassman 100T into the 15" neo cabinet with a tweeter. Regular Slinkys? Something else?

Also, the J pickup pot sucks on my Jaguar. It's like dead quiet until like 8.5 or 9 on the dial, and then it's just boom, all the way on. I'd love to be able to blend the pickups for tonal variation. Should I replace that pot, or all of the electronics? I really like how the stock pickups sound, but yeah.

As far as I know Fender strings are still made by D'addario and if so are very similar to the EXL165 strings. I've switched between the Fender 7250Ms and D'addario EXL165s on the same bass and I'd be hard pushed to tell the difference.

I've just ordered a sonic red P and it should be here on Wednesday. Possibly the first bass I have ever bought that I haven't needed to change the strings - for the moment anyway. I've just started using D'addario Prosteels on my Jazz and am really liking them.

Thanks for all of the info in this thread. I'm really looking forward to getting the bass now and will decide when it arrives if it needs any changes to hardware.

I'm actually really surprised at how much I like the stock Fender strings on my Player P. Bright and full of life, even after a solid week of non stop playing. I've typically used EB Slinkies in the past, and they seem to lose their edge faster than this.

When I do eventually replace the strings, I'm gonna try Rotosound 66s for the first time.
