Fender 2018 MIM Player Series

Looked like two colors of the lefty Jazz basses were available with maple fretboards! Other than the blocked Squier Jazz bass, we haven't seen that in a while. Someone on Reverb is taking pre-orders and has like 5 or 6 of the new lefty Player series listed with a June 30th (hopeful) ship date. I kind of like the looks of the tidepool P-bass with the maple board.

Thanks, the websites def having some issues tho. Not loading any other colors and going to a 404-type page. Maybe overloading??
Strange. It's loading for me. Here ya go

And yet here we are. On the internet. I'm just saying caution. It's really not uncommon for fenders QC to go through some serious lapses and their pushing likely a lot of these new models... yeah I wouldn't be shocked if the QC was lesser here
@tim68 managed to get hold of one last week and he seems quite impressed with the build quality of his new Player series Precision Bass.

Yep, The MX Standard series has indeed had a reboot.
Now, called the "Player" series (yeah, I know...;) ).
The olde MIM Standard has been given several refinements. Yes, the pickups are Alnico 5s. The sunburst is now three tone. The already impressive build quality of the last several years seems to have gone up by at least a notch. Yes, the price has gone up a bit too...$675. I would say though, that for the instrument you are getting now, that is still a pretty good bargain.

Hmm....interesting. Well, all I can say is that I'm still really pleased with my Player P bass. I certainly have not noticed any glaring QC issues. Fret ends are fine, nut is fine... Only "issue" I have had, is that the pickups wanted to sit crooked (I hate that! Lol) ,and I had to end up unscrewing the pickups, and re-mounting them, but that definitely isn't the first time I've had to do that with a new bass...Fender or otherwise.. I can't say about the pots. They seem fine to me. The pots in every new MIM Standard ,that I have seen over the past few years, have been Korean. I haven't looked at these pots, to see where they're made.
Anyway, again, mine seems great. Hopefully, mine is the rule, not the exception.

fender giving 5 string players the finger. Was hoping they’d finally do a Mexican standard jazz 5 with maple necks or even better a standard Mexi p 5 with maple neck.

Looks like the jazz 5 standard is no longer there at all, If you want a 5er above Squier the cheapest one is the deluxe jazz which is not good enough for a main player and too expensive for a backup imo.

I don't think they're giving anyone the finger, seriously, check your persecution complex. They're a corporation that exists to make a profit, just like any other. They've likely determined that the new Pau Ferro five string Player series is what will sell, based on sales across all bass product lines of rosewood/PF versus maple.

They do by the way have a 5 string Jazz Player. The website is not their inventory - here in Canada anyway they still show their Dimensions and those are long gone - and the Standards are replaced by the Players.

The quality control on the player series guitars apparently is suspect. I'd worry about the basses too. There's a pretty length write up on reddit about the guitars

Great headsup, especially for new bassists. I definitely have to wonder about these issues with the basses, especially maple fretboards and fret sprout…I've noticed this on several new Fenders, one so bad it could've been considered dangerous.
I'll be trying these out as soon as they show up at Guitar Center and Sam Ash, but really, there's no excuse for it if it's true.

Ever hear or sarcasm? Or exaggerating? Lol

The good news is that Fender's new Player series basses are up and available for your perusal Invalid Link Removed

I really like the 'Tidepool' color. Zoom in and take a close look next to the chrome neckplate and you'll see that it is just a gorgeous silvery blue. The neck pocket fitment is nice and tight. Gap is very small and straight, maybe 5 thousandths of an inch (thickness of a sheet of paper). Compared to my 1976 Precision where I can easily shove a quarter in the gap on both top and bottom.
