Fender 60th Anniversary Precision Bass

I thought the same about the mixed styling cues, but Im starting to change my tune. I'm actually strongly considering one of these now, mostly to commemorate the year. I started playing bass again for the first time since college, I also really started appreciating P basses and flatwounds, thanks to talkbass of course. Getting the 60th anniversary P would seem fitting, but its still on the shortlist with a few others. Either way, the mixed styles are what makes it interesting in my book. I like how the 51 Ps look but would rather have the split-coil.
Had it for about 3 months now..

yep ... got a shipping confirmation .... had fedex hold it at a local office to pickup at my leisure ... perfect condition. I really like those cases .... when I use one and not a gig bag.

I received an order confirmation on Saturday shortly after I placed the order, but haven't yet received a shipping confirmation. It was listed as "almost sold out" when I ordered, too.
The order confirmation clearly states that "We do our best to ship orders in 7 business days, but in some cases, due to high demand, items may take up to 3 weeks to ship." It's hasn't been 7 business days yet, much less 3 weeks, so I'm not concerned. I'm not in any hurry -- after all, it took me almost four months to pull the trigger from the time I first started GASing for this -- so I'm more than willing to wait a few weeks given the amount of money I saved on this deal.
Not to sway you or anything, but mine has been growing on me lately. I never DISliked it, but I found myself preferring my other P's. But now as the flats have settled in and "warmed up", I'm liking it more and more...

After trying an American Standard, a 62 re-issue and a 60th Anniversary, I liked the 60th the best. All 3 were good basses but the overall look (a little different but classy), deep sound, updated features, finish and weight sold me on the 60th so that's what I bought. After 3 months of ownership, no regrets just love the bass as do my guitar playing friends. They all think it looks very cool. I wanted to like the standard better to save myself some money but just preferred the sound of the 60th.
I probably wont get to plug mine in and go until later today or tomorrow ... its killing me.

The bass in the middle looks like a '51P, but it's a '68 Telecaster. The pickup is surrounded by a custom made mini pickguard, as the previous owner decided he didn't like the tan lines left by the chrome pickup cover.
The bass on the right is a '95 Robin Jaybird made in Houston TX. It's a Jazz bass styled after a '51P, which is a styling I've never seen one another bass. It also has a strat-type pickup selector switch.
I got a sunburst version of this bass three weeks ago and like it. I went into GC with no idea what to get, and walked out with this bass. The action was perfect, the neck felt good, the sound was balanced and even, and it was just the right weight. It's my first MIA Fender, let alone MIA bass. I had an 80's MIJ P for a while but didn't like the thin neck, and an MIJ '62 Reissue Jazz for a while but didn't feel like I needed the two pickups, and I found I didn't like the narrower Jazz neck either. The neck on this 60th Anniv P feels just right and they chose just the right pickup. Not too mellow, not too bright. The tone knob did more than I thought it would.
I personally like the melding of styles from different eras of Precisions. I was debating on getting a late 70's P but was turned off by their heavy weight and high prices (late 60s/early 70s Precisions were out of my price range). I even tried something completely different, a '79 RD Artist, but came back to the 60th Anniv P for its simplicity and balance. I may end up getting an RD Artist one day, but this 60th P was a great find. Other Precisions I played in the store didn't have the same solid, punchy feel as this one.
I'm not really what you'd call a Precision collector and I've never particularly sough them out, and my only other bass right now is a semi-hollow Ibanez, but if you're looking for a well-balanced Precision that looks different from others out there, this is the one. It's gone with me to 6 or 7 practices and one show so far and it's done great. I went to GC simply looking for a good solid-body bass and walked out with this one.
