Yes, they were (a special run for GC). I'm not sure though whether they waited until the Blondes were produced before starting on the Bursts. Seems like they were available simultaneously if my memory serves. The Bursts just weren't advertised as widely as the Blondes. I was told by Fender that approx. 125 of the Sunbursts were made.
EDIT: I just looked at the S/Ns on my Blonde and my Burst. I no longer own the Blonde, so I'll "X" out the ending S/N for it.
Blonde: US11120XXX
Burst: US11115005
So my Burst has a lower SN than the Blonde, even though I got the Blonde first. Doesn't mean anything though, since I bought my Burst used from another TB'er.
ooooohhh Ohh no .... felt a bit of a G A S bubble there for a minute.
I'll have a sit and a soda and fan myself till it goes away.
That is a fantastic wealth of information. Thank you so much.
Wow, only 125 bursts? Maybe worth some serious coin down the road.
Quick story... A steal!!! I think.
So I know it's no pix / no bass, but The forum is not letting me from my iPhone.
I was thinking about getting one of those guitar center fender pj deluxes. The passive MIM, badass bridge, Geddy neck beauties. I found a black one on line at a store in PA and got a $100 code online. I decided to stop by on my way to the Flyers game to take a look and probably buy one. (Just sold some gear and I had some GAS money burning a hole in my paypal acct). I walked in and there it was - a black pj deluxe on the hook but the action was like a compound bow. It was awful. Sounded pretty darn cool but in that condition unplayable.
I asked the guy "I assume setup is included." He said no. "Espescially because we have a low price guarantee ." Yeah, I don't see the connection either. Irritated, I was putting the pj back up on the hook and what do my wandering eyes find? A burst 60th anniversary ... Just like the beautiful blonde I sold.
I grabbed it off the rack and started playing it and fell on love again. The price tag was a reduced $1099 from $1499. I looked it over. It was in typical guitar center condition. Needs a setup but over all not bad. I found one little teeny nick on the bout so I said "look, this things a little dinged up. I'll give you $999."
The guy went to the manager and they said, "ok." I said, "get me the case."
20 minutes later the guy finally comes back to tell me they have no case. I said, "wow. That changes everything. It's a collectors edition. A fancy SKB case. Case candy.... I know you already took $100 off but what are you gonna do for me?"
5 minutes later he returned and said, "we'll do $899." I said "let's do this." I bought a $20 gig bag that will be returned this weekend and she's coming home with me tonight. Since I learned the lesson I don't plan to sell this one so the case is nice but she will be actively played. I have a great gig bag I use so the case is only for resale value. And, who knows, maybe I'll get one someday. Sad about the case candy but for $899 how can I go wrong?
How'd I do?
I will post pix tomorrow. The grain is amazing - almost spalted I might say. Not really but very nice.
They've been on clearance for $899 for a few months w case and everything. I'd go back and get that case bro.
