Fender 60th Anniversary Precision Bass

unnamed.jpg
Going to bump this thread. And I am glad I found it.

I joined TB this weekend to inquire about a bass purchase in the classifieds and I ran across this thread on the 60th anniversary. I bought one back in 2011, and I have had it ever since. The story of the purchase is kinda cool I was getting divorced, and it was an ugly one. The day I stood in front of the judge to have it finalized was actually a happy day for me. So immediately after leaving the court house I drove straight to Rockin Robins guitars in Houston, TX. I was going to buy myself a divorce present. I went in thinking I was going buy a Ric, and then I saw this and it changed my mind. Bought it on the spot.

It is a show piece, not something I gig with and it hangs on the wall to look pretty along with some other basses I have. I have found myself more of a buyer these days than a player. I do not have a band I play in so that is my current state. There is not a scratch on this bass, it is in absolute mint condition.

I have been considering selling this bass but I am now reconsidering per all the great stories and passion about this bass in this thread. I just went and pulled this off the wall and took it for a spin and man I love it all over again.

Just wanted to say thank you for all of you sharing great stories about this. It has changed my idea on this specific bass and I will probably keep it forever.

First of all, welcome to TalkBass. TB is a great online community whether you are an active bassist or not.

I had a major stroke in 2008, my wife didn't bother to come to the hospital. I got divorced as soon as I can, it was a happy day for me as well. Hanging on to yours as a reminder of your "freedom" from a bad situation might not be a bad idea. :)

I have two 60th Anniversary Precisions, a blonde and a sunburst. These are truly special basses, and yes, I have a couple of Rickenbackers too. :) The 60th Ps are unique, pretty, and every one that I've come across has been a great playing instrument.

Ive read the whole thread in about a week! Great one!
Im with my blonde since may 2013 and very happy. Ive had owned this 60th annie along with '84 sunburst JB at some period of time, but then... I realised that im in love with this P and don't need another bass) So JB is with new owner since then. And I was strictly JB guy before!
Added Fender straplocks once. One thing I am very curious of is how she will look with white pearloid pg...

Slapped some chromes on it and I am super happy! Just need to let those chromes work in a bit, they are kind of chimey right now.

One thing I noticed when I opened the case was the smell. Does that finish ever cure to the point it doesn't smell?

The finish has stains from an orange stand on the bottom and the neck (see blurry pics)

as well as the usual wear spots.

Just put Chromes on mine last week and it's like a getting a new bass! I had never changed the original strings that came with it 4 years ago. The smell goes away if you let it sit out for a year or two! That stain though, that's going to be a tough one. At least it's on the back. You're going to love your new P...congrats!:bassist:

Argh. You'd think after the first stain the previous owner would've done something with the stand (like throw it out the window).
