Ishibashi was always a good start - and no duty in the U.S....iirc

Ishibashi Music - real easy to deal with - fast emails - and a ton of cool stuff we don't see....but much pricier on U.S. gear....

The only thing I see wrong is GC's response. Give a little, you know, make the customer feel special. The economy stinks these days. Any penny counts especially for a retailer that has high overhead costs (rent, building, inventory costs, utilities, etc.) and doesn't sell anything that is a true necessity or need.

Anyway, to get back on subject, I got a chance to play one at a local dealer. It was pretty darn nice - a definite bargain at $528. The neck felt like a Geddy / MIA P hybrid - not too thin, not to thick and relatively fast for having a glossy finish. The pickup was hot and the tone knob had a great variation to it.

Are you really this bored to police a thread about what we should feel is right and wrong, were grown men here.

Were you complaining about the great guitar center scam where people on here got stingrays for 400$ shipped new? acoustic amp products for like 10$ shipped , thousands and thousands lost. WAY more then this , at 453$ there still breaking even, think they broke even on 400$ stingrays?

Did you complain when people here got highway one p bass price matched due to a error for 441$ from M123, ATKs price matched for 130$ , Rics as low as 900$ and in colors they didn't even offer at the sale price?.

Fact is they posted a price, I called and talked to a person , they gave it to me for that, i said how much is the bass? she said 453$ shipped, thats it done. I paid and i will get my bass, that was an agreement.

I love to see when people get great deals - it allows somoene to buy something that may typically be out of their price range or try something they normally wouldn't. I also love a great deal just as much as the next guy but I'm not going to mess my pants or rave and rant on a public forum if it doesn't work out regardless of whose fault it may or may not have been. After playing one the other day, I dug it and would have loved to get in on that deal.

Look man, I feel your pain and like I said earlier, GC's response to you was complete crap. If you still want the deal, take a screen print of the bass and a printout of your pending charge to your local GC and kill them with kindness. If it doesn't work out, buy a set of strings or wonder wipes to show respect and roll out.

I jumped in on the J&R Jackson deal a few weeks ago, ordered on the internet and paid. Got the order confirmation email followed by a backorder email followed by an out of stock email. I called in to see if they could do something for me. Got nothing out of it except a lower credit card bill from not buying anything.



So, you guys that do have one - what are your thoughts after spending more and more time with it? I'll often buy something because it sounds good right then and there but doesn't really grow on me once the novelty of having something new wears off.

Well i don't have one yet, but I can say that it took me over a year to warm up to my Geddy Lee jazz, but I bonded with my highway1 p instantly. so maybe this would fall somewhere in between? the geddy has that thigh gloss neck that i wasn't used to. the highway 1 has a satin neck. I'm now very comfortable with the geddy- probably a combination of experience with it and breaking in the finish a bit. I imagine the '70s p would break in faster for me now that I know what to expect.

got mine last week and gave it a good workout lastnight at band practice and i love it !!! ( i also own the geddy lee sig) the neck is awsome but a bit wider than used too but got it cased now hehe .... its pretty light compared to the geddy lee sig ..... and the pickup is nice and loud , with lots of highs but rolling off the tone gives ya the classic p sound i think .... i put a hipshot bass xtender on it and schaller strap locks and its ready to gig next weekend !!!! ( will post vid after gig next weekend) i have the olympic white one ( but like some have said , its more of creamy white which i like better )

I just got this email, so it looks like GC is trying to make good on at least some of the bargain P Basses:

"Thank you again for your order xxxxxxx. We have yet to receive the out of stock item(s) noted below, but we have more on order with the manufacturer. We will ship them to you as soon as we receive them. We sincerely appreciate your patience."

I wonder why some are having their purchase honored and some aren't?

Unless GC is just leading me on..... :)

I think a lot of it has to do with timing and the laws involved - the juxtaposition of when the bass was ordered, how far along in the order process iot was, whether the funds were deducted from the customer's account, and at what point in all that the mistake was discovered. I imagine there must be some kind of laws, whether state or federal, that would cover this kind of situation. Whichever law would be applicable might determine who gets one and who doesn't.

I had an interesting scare yesterday. I got an email from GC saying my order was cancelled. I thought, "oh, here we go." Then, ten minutes later, I get another telling me my order was still back-ordered. I gave GC a call. It turns out they changed the inventory numbers on the bass, and changed my order accordingly. If this actually goes through it will be glorious.

I got the same cancellation then backorder notification. however when i called, they just confirmed that the item was not available and re-confirmed the cancellation. Looks like i'm back to the drawing board. hope you get yours though.

To clarify: GC is telling me that they don't know anything about a 3TSB '70s pbass being available ever. So it's not like they arent going to sell it for the $529 price, then changed the part number and are now selling it for $849 like everybody else. As far as what I've been told, GC is not going to stock that bass- and for me to go shop somewhere else unless I want to change models. which I don't because I want that B&B maple pbass neck!

If I recall correctly, GC and MF severed completely around 2006 or so. Guitar Center now owns Music and Arts. While MF is closely tied with WWBW (Woodwind & Brasswind).

I tuned out of following the industry and could be wrong, but I think you are safe with MF right now.

The main reason I never shop at GC is TAXES! Why pay any more when you can buy tax free from an online-only retailer? ...unless you live in your preferred company's home state of course.

+1 on excellent service from MF, but you won't find a 70s P-Bass there for a while—I called and checked. There's 1 more left in burst on Amazon (I nabbed the 2nd to last). Not sure on their white stock, but I know they have some.

I got caught up in this GC debate and nearly forgot my original question: anyone know exactly what pickups they put in this bass?

The ambiguous description on Fender's website just says: Split Single-Coil Precision Bass pickup (Middle)

I currently own two other CIJ basses and was never satisfied with the stock pickups. Has anyone changed/considered changing out the stock p'ups in theirs? And for what?

just a note Tweeter was written by Dylan and Petty in The Travelling Wilburys and released on Vol 1 in 1988 (iirc) and later covered by The Headstones - some up here in the North (of a certain vintage) often mistake it as a Headstones original - not that you are...but just clarifying for *I have an hour to kill on the web* sake
