More like "Link(s)". As I suspected it would, it's one of many Japanese basses that has multiple listings for the same item. From what I've heard, it's probably a localized listing that different sellers post to eBay. If you buy it through them, they buy it locally and ship it to you. If someone else snatches it out from under them before they grab it, they pull the listing and you're S.O.L.

Given the softness of the basswood used in an Aerodyne's construction, I'm gonna guess it's bits of the finish that's been forcibly ground into the wood after a considerable impact. I wouldn't be surprised if it either slipped out of someone's hands or a guitar strap popped loose and all it's weight landed on that curve.I look at that photo and wonder if said bass is made of MDF. Finally got my Aerodyne Pbass delivered today. What a gorgeous bass! Very light. This one has a few small dings but other than that in great shape.

Has anyone bought one of these new Aero's yet (P or J)? Are they worth the extra cost? I bought my export Aero for ~$800 new and a non-export for ~$1k new. So what is the difference with these Aero's that is making these cost more?

Never heard of aerodynes before yesterday when i first click on this thread, i’m kinda new to basse playing, but it was an instant crush for me
I only own a couple of budget basses right know but gotta have a Fender at one point right ?

The main difference is that everything simply costs more now - materials, manufacturing, and transport - so prices have risen across the board. That said, the Babicz bridge probably added a little to the price as well.

I got curious and went to look at the current price of an Export Edition Aerodyne on Fender's website. It made me a bit sad to see it's no longer being offered there. If I remember correctly, it's absence mentioned earlier, but seeing the stark reality of it hits home.
Twenty years is a pretty good run for such an oddball bass, ja? Most of Fender's "curiosities" only last a handful of years. (Modern Players, Blacktops, Parallel Universe, Pawn Shop, etc...) End of an era, I guess.
Jeez, I know I sound old right now, but this isn't coming from an "I hate everything 'new', now get off my lawn" place. Despite it could using some minor tweaks...which, according to years of reading this thread, would mainly be the bridge, pickups and a slightly more durable finish...it's a solid, dependable, super-cool package. That, and I love how it's always stood out from the crowd among other members of the Fender family, like some black sheep cousin who's been living overseas for years and makes all the Aunties and Uncles feel a little unsettled. (...not to mention, a bit envious!

I believe the black Export edition went out as the new Aerodynes came in. Though I don‘t really see it as a discontinuation as such, seeing that the series has in fact been expanded. Rather, a particular colorway and pickup configuration has been phased out (which - let’s face it - had a pretty good run). I remember saying earlier how I'd like to see it become a whole series, much like it's been for decades in Japan, and that excites me, too. And I totally get it if, to achieve the new rollout, they had to free up manufacturing capacity by halting the classic Export line.
The cynical side of me is picturing some FMIC exec telling over the phone that the Aerodyne AJB and AJB-D models were fine and all, but they need to be updated into something "fresh, new, hip or whatever"...
...then turn to the papers on his desk to sign off on another decade's worth of Sunburst P's and J's.
Like I said, "cynical", but is it far beyond the realm of possibility?
Personally, I'm just a little bummed that, in the process of uplifting the Aerodyne to it's own series, they're built upon an ergonomic blueprint that I know won't work for me.
That being said, I still have my first-ever bass, as well as a couple of necks I've harvested over the years, so life goes on.Speaking of "necks", and much more on the brighter side for me, I'm excited about my next, two FrankenFender Projekts, both of which are nearing completion and will be receiving Aerodyne necks. Here's a preview of one...
