Fender Aerodyne Club!

Hi, got a new Aerodyne last year, love it. I ended up having the control cavity shielded, it stopped the noise! Also had Duncan quarter pounders installed along with a Babicz bridge. Wow, this is a great bass, the neck is a joy to play, and it sounds and looks great! It is rock solid, stays in tune for ever!

Congrats! If you get a chance, I’d love to see a close up of your bridge replacement. That’s oft-discussed here, as you may have seen. :)

Many Aerodynes have the bridge set into a recessed pocket on the face of the bridge, so the surface of the new replacment bridge does not sit flat as the stock Aerodyne bridge is a slightly smaller footprint than the "standard" bridge.

I had purchased a Babciz and found that for solid contact I would have to make a shim of some sort to fit between the Babciz bridge and the bass. At the time I did not want to bother with it and wasn't sure if I was going to keep the Aerodyne. Here recently I've been playing it much more and I may revisit that down the road.

I had replaced my stock pup’s with some humbucking DiMarzio's early on, and had the pickup & control cavities shielded also. Lately I’ve been toying with the bridge pup a bit more and I find that I dont have good balance, There is an impeadance mismatch between the two so I may do another swap down the road. Have other projects cooking so that will have to wait a little bit.

I spent some time researching to make sure the Babicz would fit, and it did luckily !

I'm pretty excited to be the proud owner of a new, imported 2017 Fender Aerodyne PJ in dolphin gray :cool: and wanted to share my experience for others who may find this, interested in importing.

I purchased this beautiful instrument via eBay from seller japanissimo in Kyoto, Japan after reaching out to confirm the instrument was actually in stock. I'd read about how a few other low-enders got burned trying to import, only to discover that the listing they purchased wasn't actually on hand. (be sure to read reviews left by other importers before buying from an eBay seller!) But Kenji was responsive and confirmed it was new, in stock. I had also been concerned about import fees, but some research online suggested that the USD$999.00 purchase price wouldn't be subject to fees. No CITES import issues, either.

I paid immediately after winning the eBay listing on December 26 and the bass was in Michigan on January 3 - a quick eight days after payment, even during the holiday season! Thanks to carrier EMS for moving this through so quickly. And you're going to love the postage method:

It was packaged super safely and even included a nice note from the seller.
This bass plays great, you all were right. I've been playing 5 strings for a few years and didn't own a 4 until this arrived, so it has been fun getting back to that. This is also my first passive instrument and I'm delighted by the stock tone. Upgrading pickups certainly doesn't seem necessary for the sound I'm after, and even the strings feel better than I anticipated. (been playing chrome flats for several years)

Anyway, enough rambling—I hope anyone looking to import this excellent bass finds this encouraging. Time to nerd out with this great bass.

I have had mine since 2003, shown here at the Poole Blues Festival 2016. I just bought a set of DiMarzio 126 pups from Dood on Basschatbit I have not fitted them yet.

The bridge is the high mass one originally fitted all other hardware is also original. Can I have a number please.

The combo has long since gone and been replaced by a Bugera Veyron 1001M and a Basschat1x12 Mk2. I still have the T shirt.

Got mine back in the summer from a friend. I don't want to drop names, but he's in a very successful band and this was his main bass. The point being that he probably could have sold it to a fan at an inflated price, but instead he gave me a good deal on it.

I love the neck. I just recently started stringing it with flats and I don't think I'm ever going back to roundwounds. If you see some orange on the side of the neck, those are strips of tape my friend put there to help mark the frets for low-light venues. I kept them because they are useful. Especially high up on the neck, the black on black gets confusing.

I didn't really clean it up like some of you guys did. :D
