Fender American Design Experience

Well, that's typically why we use Talkbass....

Width at the nut (and 12th fret) is highly relevant information Fender omitted from the bass builder. To include number of frets and radius but omit this spec is strange. I figure all of the J-bass necks will have 1.5 at the nut. The P-necks will have more variety.

If I'm building a bass, I really shouldn't have to go through a cross-reference exercise. They should just add the nut width spec to each offered neck.

With something brand new like this, it's highly unlikely that any of us would have better info than FMIC. Good luck to you!

Ordered! Pretty much a straight-up American Standard. CAR with tort guard. Since (ahem) I didn't find any answers regarding the pickup comparisons I stuck with the Am Standard that I knew. Molded ABS case, no engraving.

Isn't American standard pickups now the custom shop 60s

Edit: thought you ordered a jazz bass. Never mind.

From what I understand, both the Jazz and the Precision feature "Custom Shop 60s" pickups. Still not sure what that really means. 60's split coil for the P and 60's spacing for the Jazz? Are they voiced based on a particular vintage? Who can say?:eyebrow:

Anybody get theirs yet? I ordered mine 4/1 and no sign yet. I know they get 90 days so...
Ordered mine on 3/25, so I'm on day 50 as of today.

Their goal is to get them done sooner than the quote, but I'm expecting to wait the full 90 at the very least, just so I don't set myself up for disappointment.

I wish I could find a Fender for $3000 (a 1961 precision of course). ;)

I just used the configurator and my selections came up to about $1700. That's fairly close to an off the shelf MIA. Seems to me this would be the way to go if you were looking for a new MIA.

That's about $500 more than an off the shelf MIA.

Yeah, and some of the models I've seen people customizing are exactly what you can get retail. lol

Mine is very close to retail. But I didn't like any of the available retail colors. For me, getting CAR and a tort guard was enough to make me go the ADE route. That said, if this works out I think my next one will be more adventurous. Especially if they make more options available.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a CAR USA Fender & an aftermarket Tort guard? By a few hundred?
