Fender American Design Experience

That's amazing... It's cool that the ADE allows you to take a "classic" model that's already available and "American Standardize" it, using all the classic colors, pickguards and woods, but with all the modern construction and hardware.

Here's to hoping you guys are able to order one soon!

I'm getting to close to ordering a P-bass. I've decided that I really prefer the modern American Standard neck with its radius and finish. But I'm not so sure about the pickup.

Can anyone give a more detailed (or subjective?) account of the types offered? Vintage '58, Vintage '63 and American Standard.

May I assume that the American Standard is the same as what's available on stock models which is labeled as "Custom Shop"?

Woohoo. Got build #2 started last night!

All if those options are available already through the custom shop. There are tons more options available through the custom shop... and even more available if you decide to pay for a Master Built instrument. If you want figured woods and ebony fingerboards, that would be the way to go.

.

My problem is that I dont buy the "master build" concept, although I have to recognize that Fender marketing department is really good selling ideas to their customers.

You don't have to get a Master Built instrument. Like anything at Fender, The Custom Shop has tiered pricing and you can get a team built instrument for less money than a Master Built with a ton of options not available on any "off the shelf" offering.

Here's their "Build Sheet" with available options and pricing:

Forgive me if this has been answered, but is there a comprehensive list of the nut width for the various bass neck options? All I see is radius and "shape." I'm not sure why they avoided nut width. I'm especially trying to avoid a P neck that's 1.75 at the nut. I know the American Standard neck is 1.625, but are there any other P necks that are 1.625 or 1.5 at the nut (I want a headstock that says Precision, not Jazz)?

For detailed neck specifications, use the measurements for the "ready-made" models that Fender already sells.

All of the ADE vintage necks appear to be from their "American Vintage" series and the ADE modern necks appear to be from either the "American Special" or "American Standard" series.

If you look up any of those basses on the Fender site, it gives nut width and those kinds of details.

I recommend you do what I did before I placed my order: go to a store and play all the necks with specs you are looking for. I almost went with the vintage jazz neck or vintage p bass and opted - to my own surprise - to go with modern jazz. If I went by looks or what I thought I wanted, I'd have been very disappointed.

Rather than relying on others who don't know try emailing or calling FMIC. They probably have more info than we do.
Well, that's typically why we use Talkbass....

Width at the nut (and 12th fret) is highly relevant information Fender omitted from the bass builder. To include number of frets and radius but omit this spec is strange. I figure all of the J-bass necks will have 1.5 at the nut. The P-necks will have more variety.

If I'm building a bass, I really shouldn't have to go through a cross-reference exercise. They should just add the nut width spec to each offered neck.

Still hoping to get some help regarding Precision pickups... I've played an American Standard but I'd like to know how it compares to the Vintage options?

I realize this may be subjective but I figure they have to different in some ways.
