It looks cool but the Mercury is a bit of a neutral looking color. It's sparkly somewhat up close too.

I want neutral 
. The other colors don’t do it for me. I like a color that can feel at home visually in any type of band.
Like, without sounding too shallow, would you see yourself play the Miami Blue one in a post-hardcore band? I know it’s not all about the looks, but you’d look a bit out of place.

Keep us posted on how the CS pickups compare! I recently bought and returned an Am Pro II P-bass, and now I’ve purchased a Custom Shop P-bass instead. I preferred the new and modern look of the Am Pro II over the heavy relic vintage look on my Custom Shop, but the feel and sound of the Custom Shop are exactly what I’ve been looking for. I couldn’t make the V-Mod sound work for me, nor could I get the action low enough on the Pro II to suit my play style without vibe-killing buzz and rattle. Maybe I had a dud.

I guess every time I think guitar I think what goes best with the body wood. The Mercury makes you think it's not wood but plastic or something. That's just me. Sunburst and Olympic are my favorites. Then Black and finally Red or the new Dark Night.
I Have 2 American Pro 5 string Jazz Basses. 1 American Pro II 5 string Jazz Bass, and 2 American Pro II 5 string Precision Basses.
Clearly these are the best instruments Fender has produced in a while. I played an American standard 4 string for about 7/8 years and it was my only bass for that time. I switched to playing 5's about 2 years ago and I ain't never going back.
So I started with the Pro's. A 3TBSB Jazz. Loved it more than the A.S.. Then I got the ash body (natural) Jazz. Also a 5 string.
Then out come the Pro II. Started with a 3TBSB Precision 5 string. The next week a Dark Night showed up at the same shop I got the first one at. Back to the shop. Got my second pro II 5 string. Then as luck would have it Sweetwater got 2 Pro II Jazz Basses in, in 3TBSB. I bought one on the spot. When it arrived I took it in for setup. And yeah it's like the rest. F'n perfect.
Long story a little longer.
I'm officially a Fender freak. I have no favorite among these 5 instruments. Which ever I chose to play satisfies.
Good thing I'm a gigging musician. I hate to see a bass go to waste.
My biggest problem are the cases. I have 5 identical cases. So if I do want a particular instrument I may have to open a few cases to find it. Maybe a label maker is in order.

Those things are great to have. Try to resist the urge to label every single thing in sight!

You are lucky to have gotten one of the 3tsb 5 string from Sweetwater,I remember when they came in and were gone in days and have been out of stock since.
I'm looking to put an American Pro neck on a Tony Franklin body, but with the 5 bolt necks they have, i'm wondering how the holes would line up. I don't mind drilling new holes if they are far enough away from the originals to be stable. Anyone with an American Pro II have an opinion on this cross compatibility with traditional 4 bolt bodies?
I have Pro II Precision arriving tomorrow. I couldn’t resist. Fender hasn’t made a non custom (or mod shop) US maple necked P for lefties in about 38 years - Even longer if you don’t count those 12” radius C width necks of the 80s.
That and a metallic surf green finish? I’m in. If the V mod PU isn’t up to scratch, I’ll replace it. I’m open minded. I can’t wait to hear it. I’ve had traditional Precisions that sounded great and some not as great so I’m anxious to see where on the spectrum this one falls.

Thanks for asking. I got the new Custom Shop pups today, and they are now onboard the Am Pro II P-bass -- together with some new Fender flat wound strings (the LM version), replacing the stock rounds.
I like the sound of the bass more now. Regarding an actual comparison of one pickup set to to the other, I regret that my finger-ear-brain complex isn't up to the task! I just like the CS pups more than the V-Mod-IIs.
Which ones did you get. Thinking about changing my AM Pro II Jazz bass ones out.
