Fender American Professional series discontinued?

It would be really cool to have their mod shop come down slightly in price and be more international.

And allow you to put a J neck on an otherwise normal P bass. Honestly, if they did that and offered 3TSB (which, surprisingly, isn't an option) I'd buy one today. Bonus if they could add a d-tuner and do a factory install for ashtray covers, too... woof. But those are easy enough to do at home.

I'm up for the factory install of ashtrays covers. I want to put them on mine but I'm afraid to mess it up since there is no going back. I also don't know the drill size to use and how deep to drill although I have seen some roll a tape on their drill as to indicate how deep to drill.

Totally understand that concern.

I think a revitalized update to the mid shop could really put Fender into a completely new category of instrument manufacturers.

I'm curious. I just picked up a Vintera jazz bass and while I was looking at basses, I kept comparing everything and thinking that the American Professional really had a nice sound. The colors are a bit old and its always fun looking for a new instrument even if there isn't any interest in actually buying. But who knows??? Maybe something will get your attention. So I am patiently waiting any announcements from Fender.

ultra IMO was a step down from the elite

I love my American Elite Jazz Bass and I don't see the Ultra as a significant of improvement. I was really surprised how short-lived the American Elite series was compared to the American Deluxe series it replaced. I felt like the Elite was an improvement in terms of the electronics, although I preferred the 70s headstock logo of the Deluxe.

The elites trust rod and string through ability are the 2 things they took away on the ultra that I find to be a step down. Truth be told the elite is the best 5 string jazz i've ever played compared to sadowsky, moollon, spector and ibanez basses I've owned and sold. I'll be looking for a 2nd one in the future maybe. found a great deal on a 5er yesterday but can't take the jump right now. shame.

Use double sided tape to make 100% sure of the location… Don't even drill or try to sink the screws for a couple of months, just to make sure everything is exactly how you want it.
With some of the stuff I used, I never even had to screw it in. The tape worked excellent for years.

I talked to a fender rep yesterday and he told me October 13th is the drop date and confirmed it is called the Professional 2. Curious to see what they are going to change about it.

I hope Fender will bring an American Professional Mustang bass with both string thru and top load options.
Also a wheel adjustment truss rod on all the Professional bass series.
