OK, last post for now about my new toy! Promise.

I'm finding the active EQ much better than on my Japanese Jaguar. It's more consistent with the passive volume, and in all the range of settings it provides a more consistent volume throughout the pitch range. As well as with the pickup settings. It must have a little computer in there adjusting things.

Do you have to be sure to turn off the active EQ in order to not drain the batteries, or does it turn off when you remove the patch cord?

I've been playing flat wounds for years now, and I'm thinking of running out and getting a new set for this beast. Any suggestions on good flat wounds for this thing? Note that I play exclusively with a pick - Clayton 1.00 triangle picks to be exact.

I've got a black US Jaguar and have D'Addario flats on mine--chromes I think--and it's working out nice. String choice is really personal so you'll have to work out what works for you. I have some age related hand issues so I gave Labella Low Tensions a try. They delivered on the ease of playing but were, to my ear, the most sonically dead flats I've ever messed around with. Also felt weird, like sliding your fingers on a piece of glass. I like it brighter, so I put the D'Addario's back on. At this point, I've really only had flats on the Jag and that's how it will stay.

I will say that I was never fond of red, but this mystic red is darker and metallic, and I'm digging it. I'm also not the one looking at the bass when I'm playing it. As a visual from the audience, I think the mystic red is much nicer than my usual black.

Beautiful looking Bass. I always wanted a "real" Jaguar Bass - But I settled for a Modern Player and I am very pleased with it.

Jesus, I suspect that's a home brew relic job gone wrong but if it's not, it takes effort to mess a bass up that bad. I recently had my Pawnshop Bass VI take a four foot fall after a hanger popped out of the wall and while the end result wasn't pretty, it wasn't as bad as this. That said, if you ever wanted to get a US Jaguar and refinish it, this is your shot.

That seems pretty aged for a poly coated bass and suggestive of a refinish and bad relic job, but it can be hard to get good pictures that convey color sometimes.

One thing not touched on before (or maybe it was, and I missed it) is the tone control.
On the Am. Std. it is not functional when you're in active mode.
I believe the MIJ JJ version is different in this.

By the way, P only pickup in active mode is jaw-dropping.

I finally got myself a US Jag again, and the controls are very suited for my mental capacity.

I bought the Red MIJ Jag when they first came out. I really wanted to like it but returned it due to the IMO poor electronics in them. The battery box was so bad the batt would move around inside the box and lose connection. It was way worse if you moved the bass around while playing. The controls and active preamp were also noisy. I didn't need a bass that went snap, crackle, pop everytime you played it. Tried another in the store when I returned the first one and it also did the same. Just not as bad. Truly sad because the bass was nice in every other way. I know I could've changed the battery box, shielded the bass, and even replaced the preamp as well but.... These basses were not cheapies when introduced and at the price they were asking for them, those issues shouldn't have been there to begin with.

I wanted the US version when they came out but was cash poor at the time. Oh, well. Maybe someday..... In the meantime I have the medium scale Jag H in Black 'n' Maple to satisfy my offset body gas. As you can see the mods have already been applied.
