To my knowledge, Fender does not make an aftermarket aluminum pickguard that has the 1960's screw hole pattern.

To my knowledge, Fender does not make an aftermarket aluminum pickguard that has the 1960's screw hole pattern.
A lot of the aging will occur once it spends quite a bit of time in sunlight. My Oly White version has yellowed quite a bit, but it has been used on many, many outdoor gigs.

I have one install on Classic 70s bass body . All screw holes are well align, but need some trim on both pickguard edge that meet neck pocket area.
I have both black and gold.
Yep, true to the original 1963 models. They have clay markers that are not as easy to see as modern materials. I don't look at the markers while playing, so it isn't an issue for me.
This is being advertised here in the UK as being a 2020 American Vintage '63.
The date seems non-possible? And it looks like a American Original Sixities to my ignorant eye. The serial number isn't in the ad, so I can't look it up.

Yeah, that is an AO 60s. Definitely not a AVRI 63.

I have the same issue.I noticed it whilst trying the one I fell in love with (see previous post) and it did get in my way.
I am looking to maybe put something on there but dead scared to use anything sticky on the laquer.
I am being lazy here ...I haven't checked back this thread, but if it's not on this one,I know I read someone's suggestions for stick on marker material.
And it's also strange how they did orangey fingerboard markers. I have read that they were white when new (some kind of compressed cellulose) but very quickly went orange from finger oils and oils from the rosewood.
So technically they should be white...
I think they look nice and ' vintagey' ,as old ones always have this feature.
Keeping my fantasy that I went back in time to '63 and bought a new one, I now imagine mine had been played in the shop until they went yellow. Maybe by someone great. If its not sacrilegious to bring him into the fantasy while I am at it,maybe a certain Mr. Jamerson stopped in at the store and broke her in for me!
My 2013 model's fret markers (top and side) started out white-ish. Over the next couple of years, they got the common darker hue.
I seem to remember that there are companies out there that offer very nice fingerboard decals. They stick well, look good, can be removed, and don't leave any residue behind. This may be something to look into.
Aha and thankyou. With mine being so mint I assumed it hadn't really been played,but it must have been then. I am sure I read they came orange,but I guess that may have been someone else's mistake that I carried on.
And yes I am going to look into the marker stickers.
I recently got out of a lifetime habit of watching the fingerboard dots,and looking at the edge ones,and now they've gone!
Its a tiny inconvenience on a magnificent bass though.

I am the biggest fan of the Fender American Vintage basses big time. I coveted the AVRI '62 Precision until I played the '57 AVRI at Matt Uminov's in NYC. The '63 are gorgeous. Im usually partial to Oly-white with tortuous shell but that faded sonic blue and parchment guard is droooooool invoking.
Just throwing this in here - it seems the 63 P is especially well regarded, at least in this thread. Given that, is it fair to say the 58 P is just as good, given that it was launched at the same time as the 63? It appears 58s are a lot easier to find.
I have two of the 58s, a black and a white one. They are phenomenal basses and are every bit as good as the 63s. Different look obviously, different neck profile and very different pickups. Mine are both very light and sound and play great. I think they're a great deal given the relative discount to the 63s.
