The entire AVS I series is great. But you still have to look at each individual bass. I wonder if the AVS II series that followed the short period of AO's is as good? The instruments look as great as the AVS I ones. That '66 Jazz with dots, binding and Lollipop tuners in seafoam green looks so cute.

Help me understand. I have a Fender AVRI 62. It was made in 1982. From what I understand, the first year of these and made at the Fullerton factory. In this thread I'm seeing AVS and 63. Is there a difference or are they different basses? If not is mine a 63 or 62 reissue? I'm not up on Fender info, I just play the things. Please enlighten me and thank you in advance.

You have the older '62 reissue. This thread is about the 63' reissue that started in 2013.

Cool to find this thread. I got an Olympic White in 2016 for $1200, posted pics of it in the AVRI thread that was floating around back then. No idea what the values are on this now because I doubt Ill ever sell it, but Im going to go look.

When I first got it, I played it 2 days in a row for 6-8 hours. I could not put it down. Sounds so great and I love the thick neck. Since then I got a few other P's including an MIJ, but nothing really feels or sounds like the AVRI 63, so I sold them. The only 2 basses that I have that I consider on par to this bass are my NYC Sadowsky PJ (it now sells for $6k on Sadowskys site - blew my mind to see that) and my Wilcock short scale. These are all very different basses but they all record so well.

Just yesterday I strung mine up with Labella flats and reset the neck. The intonation was still dead on. I probably had not set it up in years. I used the Fender flats that came with it for years until they gave up on me. The Labellas, as we know are a perfect fit for the bass. For someone wanting flats but a little more crispy bark, I love Chromes on this bass as well.

I'm still loving my 2013 in Olympic White. It's still my #1 and it gets played for hours each week!
