Fender Bass prices???

Here is another oddity. I went to my local music store and got a quote on a MIM Standard I was told 699.99 I thought ok that's fair for your local dealer but then mentioned I wanted the maple neck munis the rosewood fret board. Price when up to 799.99.

Looking at all the sites selling them new there is no extra charge between the two fretboards.

This is custom shop mind you. Fender is mass manufacturing these basses and they can't put them out to the point the average worker can afford one? The math is not adding up.

Do you mean the average uneducated burger flipping worker?
$1500 is not that much money these days.
Basses are cheap compared to other hobbies and if you are a pro it is nothing compared to the tools needed by other professions.

I think it is when you consider the American middle class has shrunk to about 10% of the population. The jobs are off shore replaced by service jobs one I am working. Food prices are up and in a time when there is a mass of empty real estate space that can find no renters rents are at an all time high in spite of the reality of the bad economy.

If Fender does not want to sell more basses I guess that's their call.

That's not how business works. I would imagine that with the high cost of labor in the US compared to Indonesia or China, they would actually make a larger profit margin from a Squier than a US Fender.

What? If there were no renters prices would be lower due to less demand. Rent prices go up when there are more people looking to rent than houses available. If your house can't find a tenant the last thing you would want to do is raise the price lol.

I would bearly call myself middle class but I am debt free. Plenty of middle class people have boats, Harley's or take nice vacations. If you can't scrape up $1500 I would say you have one foot in poverty or are over your head in debt. US middle class is defined as $25,000-75,000 depending on where one lives. 25k in LA or NYC would put you in poverty but in a mid size town in the mid west you can live nicely.
Heck, I have $1500 in the exhaust pipes on my Harley.

Keep in mind though that wages have not increased as much as inflation has so $1733.60 feels like alot more in 2015. Just sayin'.

Good question and points here. All I know is between the Steinberger XL2, MTD, Tune Maniac and MIJ Jazz, I take the jazz to most gigs AND practice with it most of the time. And I payed 500 for it...
Says something no?
