Since this is a reissue they replicated the Fender brand on the tuners like the originals. However, they did forego the hootenanny button. Also the metal that holds the peg is squared off (Hipshot) and the originals is more rounded. Other than these things, the specs are the same as the original.

Those Hipshots lollipops are fantastic. I have them on two basses with the matching drop-d. But mine say "Hipshot". 
Aesthetically, I do not typically use them because of those square shoulders that you mentioned, however when they are a matching set, they look very nice. Almost all of my 70's basses have the Drop-D's but I use the older ones with "traditional" shoulder. Of course, you do not get the adjustable tension with those.

Thanks so much. It really plays well and I love how light and well balanced it is. I'm with you on the gears, as they are quite smooth. I'd like to find a pair of Ultralight Hb6L's to fit my Postmodern. I don't think they are still in production as I did not see them on Hipshots website, so I'll keep cruising through the used market.

Just a quick question - did early Pinos originally have strap button on rear of headstock?

I ordered a Fender Custom Shop P from Sweetwater and won’t get it until April 2021. Does anyone have experience with this bass?

I don’t have any experience with that particular bass, but I do have a couple 57 P-basses and they are absolutely my favorites. The wait seemed long to me at first, but then I counted the months... probably about right.
I have bought all but one of my FCS basses from Chicago Music Exchange. They usually have several in stock, and the last time I was there, they had a sonic blue P. They also hand a desert sand that was made for NAMM that was really sweet. If I hadn’t fallen for the Mary Kay, I would have taken the Desert Sand. Not only can you play them on site, there is no wait to get it should you find one you love. Scott Tooredman is the guy... if you call, tell him I sent you and I’m sure he wont raise the price too much.
Whatever you choose to do, I am sure you will like it a lot. Best of luck.

a second but it is not listed on CME. I can’t get a refund and I am locked in for the nine month wait. I was just curious if the neck was quarter-sawn or rift sawn ...
Stunning is RIGHT!! (gloss neck, notsomuch) Wow - what a beauty. Did you guys SEE the price differences between some of the Masterbuilts and the John Cruz ones?! - crazy - - were his builds THAT much better? Anybody here own one?

I don't own a Masterbuilt but the early Fender Custom Shop basses pretty much were when they started. I have a 1997 64 RI that has the John Cruz stamp on the neck heal.
I don't know if he made the entire bass, but his hands certainly touched it. Whether it was making the neck or assembly. I don't know how much better his Masterbuilt basses are to the rest, but if you have been following the news, you know there aren't going to be any more John Cruz basses coming out of the Fender Custom Shop.
Yeah that's kinda what i was thinking - maybe his particular pieces increased due to his departure(?)...maybe he did the "relic" part on yours? Cool nonetheless. There are some sweet CS ones here in Canada - if anyone wants the info, pm me...with your strong US dollar, you can buy new for 30% less than us. (again, not involved - i will just share the info)
From the looks of it, it’s the “Standard” FCS P Bass offering from this year...when I say standard, that’s not a slight either...my P is considered a standard model as well and smokes everything everyday.. it’s a standard modelmeaning they put in the usual parts and materials for a generic FCS P Bass (if there is such a thing) , no real extra bells and whistles, which is fine because it keeps the price down...the only variation is the finish color and the relic level most of the time...it should have a quarter sawn neck unless they switched it up from the last few years...more than solid bass...that’s a tough wait though...here’s an idea though, Mantis...if you bought the bass, contact Sweetwater and get the serial...email Fender and get them to pull the FCS Floor Traveler...it’ll tell you everything
