I have the scotch brite pads- grey and white. I’ve taken the shine of the nitro on a couple of other Basses. But, as described, it returns pretty quickly. So, just keep going until I reach the wood? Is there anything the needs to applied once the nitro or poly is gone?

Tung oil works well.

Also very fine sand paper works well for this job. Think like wet dry sand paper very fine. And yes you need to oil the wood with something once it's down to nothing. fine wood oils are available

I got a recipe from a luthier for several coats mineral oil and finishing with a coat or two of Johnson paste wax.

This 'cured' my G.A.S. as far as Jazz basses go : it has a growl that would show a lion who's the boss ; organic warmth and smoothness in the bridge pickup ; a fast neck so stable it can withstand Canadian weather and its seasonal whims and a stack pot setup that make it easy to find 'the' tone I'm looking for. Looks alone sold it to me ... I'm glad beauty was more than skin deep with this 2017 Fender Jazz CS '60 Blue sparkle w matching headstock. It was money well spent and it's my go to bass for my current Big Band needs (we cover all styles of music).

Does this model have a matte fretboard like traditional rosewood boards or does it have a gloss finish like they did with the 57 Precision models with the all rosewood necks?

It looks to have the gloss finish..

Here's my slab board Custom Shop 1959 Precision

I'm not really a huge fan of the tort that the CS is currently using, so I threw on a Spitfire. Really pulls everything together in my opinion. I ordered this bass with hand wound pickups and man are they hot!
Total night and day difference in comparison to my 1966 Precision. Its a really dark sounding pickup...while it still sounds good, I have been thinking about swapping it with something with less output. Needless to say, this bass is super resonant probably one of the best Precisions Ive owned.
