I think that’s the trend. Last year we saw a lot less 9.5” radius which a lot of folks weren’t so keen on. I think there will still be at least one heavy relic, as fender custom shop is gonna do what fender custom shop does. You gotta remember, most FCS orders are customer custom orders, and a lot of em are heavy relics.

Early 70’s jazz would be cool, like a 71 with a black matching headstock. Mmmmmm

Maybe a 62-63 P? I hope if they do a 60’s P they use the correct logo for the year including the patent numbers, it seems fender likes to use the pre 61 logo on on their mid 60’s P’s….

I agree on the headstock logos. I just bought a '62 Precision NOS that has the '60 logo. No concerns though, it sounds fantastic and I just pretend it's a '60 Precision.

Another cool idea would be 65 P and J basses, as it’s the 60th anniversary for those. Or a 75 Jazz 50th anniversary model

I need help finding a replacement for the pickup in my CS 59 P Bass. Unfortunately the pickup has gone dead. A local luthier confirmed that one of the two coils is dead. The wire is broken presumably. Now I am looking for a spare part. The shop floor traveler says it is a '59-62 Rel with shield' pickup. I cannot find any information about it and it is not for sale at the Fender site or anywhere else. I am wondering if it is the same as the Custom Shop 62 P-bass pickup which is offered by Fender. I have posted this question in the pickups forum but to no avail. Perhaps there is someone in this forum who can clarify which pickup it is. Thanks for any hint.

Maybe try Fender Custom Shop support? I’ve contacted them via email before and they were quick to respond and very helpful.

I would try Fender customer support. If no luck, I’d get a Seymour Duncan Antiquity 2. It sounds the closest to the real Pre Cbs P basses I’ve had.

Your '59-62 FCS pickups are most likely the non-handwound offering. FCS offers them either beveled or non-beveled. The Pino Palladino pickups are described exactly the same way as yours on the Shop Floor Traveler, with the difference being the relicing. Those pickups measure around 10.5K.

Fender's Pure Vintage '62, Fender Original, Pure Vintage '60, and the Custom Shop '62 all have the same 10.5K specs, so there shouldn't be much difference in sound. The only non-beveled offering in the above list is the Custom Shop '62. The Pure Vintage '60 has Formvar wire, while the others are Enamel.

Thank you all for your replies. I have also thought about contacting Fender Custom Shop support. Unfortunately, there is no e-mail address for this on the website. You are redirected to the general Fender Home page, which then refers to the local support (Germany in my case). A large Fender Custom Shop dealer here was also unable to help me sand says the local Fender support is not reachable at the moment. If anyone has an e-mail address for Custom Shop Support, I would be grateful.

FCS isn’t mentioned in the email address, but they’ve been able to provide me with Shop floor Travelers for a couple FCS guitars, so they have (at least) a line of communication with FCS.

Thanks a lot. My German dealer was able to speak to a knowledgeable person at Fender. They are not willing to sell the pickups used exclusively in the CS instruments. So I will see if I can have the pickup repaired. Some German pickup makers offer this service. In the meantime I have put a Lindy Fralin pickup in the bass and I am quite thrilled by the sound.
