Well if you like the flats but want a bit more zing they are the ticket...No I haven't. Why?
In 2016 Fender Custom Shop built these 1966 Journeyman relics. I have a lefty one in these series that I bought in 2017. See below. Anyone here knows how many were made? Lefties and righties?
Did you get your CS P from Chicago Music Exchange?? It looks an awful lot like the one I bought new in 2015 from Bizzare Guitar and then traded in to CME in September last year as part of a deal to purchase an original '66 Jazz. The relic markings look identical...

Pardon my intrusion, but I couldn't resist. Looking at the pictures, it IS the same bass. The pattern of the pickguard is exactly the same. As well as the relic markings.
That is awesome! I'm so glad to see it went to a good home! I had some great shows with it, it's definitely a great bass! Here are a few pictures of it when I first bought it back in 2015! Enjoy!

Can I get a number, please! '64 Light Relic, built 03/2018. I bought it, played it out once, loved the tone, but sold it. Buyer felt it was redundant to his Paladino, so I bought it back.

After 25 years as a bass player, I finally am the owner of a Fender Custom Shop bass! It's a 2014 Proto Precision Bass in sunburst, and I got it Friday.
I have multiple Ps and Js of various eras, and I'm looking forward to using the Proto in a band setting. Playing it in the shop, it sounds a little different from either P or J, with the Gretsch pickup, yet to my ear it still sounds Fenderish. The attention to detail is very fine.
Anybody else have experience with the Proto?

Parts help! My 2018 '64 P Relic (posted above) has a really nice punch note definition that I like a lot. I want to put this pickup in a Lakland Glaub. The traveler sheet for my bass says the pickups are "59-62 P-Bass Rel W/Shield". Anyone know what this pickup is? Is it the Pure Vintage '63 pickup available on-line?

I've read that CS 62 was the stock pickup in all American Standard P basses for about 10 years up to 2016, I think. I'm wondering if they would really put such a pedestrian pickup in a high dollar CS P bass?
If that's the exact tone you want matching your '64 CS Relic, I would be careful and do some research prior to purchasing. I believe the Pure Vintage '63 and the '62 sound different based on my research a couple of years ago (which I can't remember specifically right now). Also look into the Fender AVRI '62 and '63 Precision basses which will give you on these pickups. Someone here might know the exact pickup based on your traveler sheet info. Have you tried emailing the Fender CS team? Good luck and congrats on your new CS bass!

Good points. Reading the CS Design Guide they mention that CS instruments have hand-wound pickups unless ordered otherwise. So none of the after off-the-shelf Fender pickups I can buy would be hand-wound as far as I know.
