I just received my 59 RI back from the Custom Shop. Had to wait over 4 months but they did a fantastic job. Setup was done by Larry Smoak of Wooden Wizard in Fairfax Station, VA, the Custom Shop Service provider in my area. I learned that the reason it took a little longer was that they first thought that it was a relic and built a relic neck for it. When the looked at my bass further, they realized it was a reliced NOS. Guess my home made relic job fooled them, so they had to build a second neck for the NOS bass. Anyway, I'm glad to have it back for rehearsal tomorrow.

I love my 64 LTD jazz bass, but the 59 p-bass I ordered was a big disappointment for me. It was suppose to have a black case with black interior, they sent a vintage style tweed. I asked for the black specifically, but oh well not the biggest thing. It was suppose to have a quatersawn flame maple neck. It was quatersawn, but about the ugliest piece of wood I have ever seen. It was ordered with a dark rosewood board , and they did put a very dark piece on, but it had some serious fishers in the last two fret locations, they were wide and deep. The body was suppose to be a light weight sort. The bass weighed in at around nine pounds. I told my dealer to keep it.

No big deal. I still love custom shop instruments, and Fenders have always been a hit or miss proposition. I love my CS j-bass so much I must admit it would have to be a very special bass for me to buy it at this point anyhow. I wound up buying an upright with the cash instead.

My Reggie Hamilton Custom Shop Jazz 5 string. Had this a year now and it is amazing to play, versitile, punchy as all get out. Got it 2nd hand as the guy was changing to Sadowsky's. Can't imagine there would have been much of a jump up as this bass is amazing!

NOS 1964 Customshop Jazz. Incredible tone and feel. Not much else I can say....

I downloaded the price list, and it doesn't even look like you can order anything but what they have. Do you have to go to a dealer to order one, or to get a quote? Or is there someplace online, where I could figure out a ballpark price range for an order?
