Pulled the trigger and this arrived on monday of this week. It DOES have a P body, but a Jazz neck - and it is MIJ from 1986-7 under the name Jazz Bass Special. Is it still a PJ?

This looks like a Fender Precision Bass Lyte instead of a Jazz Bass Special. Strange, maybe it's someone's hybrid of the two.

This bass is standard except for one "custom" feature and that is the trans black finish. Most were black paint.

I returned mine. Just didn't bond with it. Nothing really wrong with it.

Yes, very happy with it. I tried many basses over a few weeks and I kept coming back to the Deluxe PJ. I've had it since early August. It sounds great and to me is very versatile: I can play soft tone is Church on Sunday morning and then have it growing later in a Rock Jam session.

The one I got is well made and was setup perfect out of the factory.

Hello everyone. I just bought this bass (in sea foam green) and I am really excited. Quick question: I like the reggae sound for bass guitar. Should I put flat wounds on this guitar? Anyone have a brand they would recommend? I would also like to buy a decent amp that I could gig with. Any recommendations? I currently just have a fender rumble 15 for practice. (i have been playing through the monitors instead of using a bass amp)

The same GC I went to before has a black one in now as well, and it's the best Fender I've ever played. Custom shop, American, vintage, whatever. It was excruciating to walk out there without it.

That's the way I felt about it. I went back with two basses to trade in and they were gone. Bad move by Fender.

I have the black one and I think I paid around $800. I also installed EMG GZR pups in mine.. holy moly!
