Went to my local guitar shop and saw this crazy bass. I’m pretty sure it’s directly from Fender, but I can’t find any info on it. The serial number doesn’t pull anything up, and I’m pretty certain it’s not a custom shop bass. It’s just a Fender, made in Mexico. Anyone got any info on this?

Fender Jazz Bass Gold Foil

Went to my local guitar shop and saw this crazy bass. I’m pretty sure it’s directly from Fender, but I can’t find any info on it. The serial number doesn’t pull anything up, and I’m pretty certain it’s not a custom shop bass. It’s just a Fender, made in Mexico. Anyone got any info on this?
It looks like the Mark Hoppus came in blue. One of those that someone replaced the pickguard and installed a Victory or similar goldfoil?
The mark hoppus didn’t come with a color matching headstock from what I remember.
Looks like an open-frame Supro pickup.

I’m not even sure if it’s a mod! The employee at the store showed me the box it came in, and it had a sticker from Fender advertising it as a “Gold Foil Jazz Bass”. Also, it came with some Telecaster gold foil guitars, so this might be something new? No idea, to be honest.
I’m thinking I am gonna buy it, unfortunately . It’s not too expensive at $1,300, but just enough that I don’t feel great doing it right now

If you hadn't said there was a box for this bass, I'd say it was someone's (well done) build and not the real thing.

rarities flame ash top jazz. This had an ebony board bound neck and correct decal for the late 60s too. But it was super expensive and american made.
