Fender jazz deluxe MIM ....what's yalls thoughts

Your benchmark for the purchase of a quality product is obviously far different from my own. The above incident is another example of why I DO NOT buy instruments from GC, but instead patronize an independent dealer. And interestingly enough that same independent dealer keeps their displayed instruments in good condition on the floor, and consistently beats GC on price.

I just got a MIM Fender Deluxe V on a trade deal. It's a player! Nice round tone through a GK MB112, good variety of tonal choice. Nice action up and down the neck. Well constructed - three piece neck to minimize possibility of warping. MIM hardware is what it is, but I like it. I might keep it and sell my six-string!

I have one from 01' i think. Black / Rosewood / tort. I like a more vintage sound so the pre amp did nothing for me. I put new CTS pots & Oil & Paper cap in std v/v/t setup passive & I dig the tone. I have the suhrs which are 2 side by side coils rather than a single coil or stacked humbucker. Makes for a no hum passive jazz. the weird thing I found was both vol maxed has a strange tone but the std's of 100% neck / 70% bridge or vice versa gets a nice powerfull vintage tone without the hum of those old single coils. I think the neck & body from a dlx MIM is slightly better that any std MIM I have had.

I had a 2008. It was not bad. Recorded well, felt good, but it didn't measure up to the one I played in a GC in MD. I had it for 8 months and recently traded it for a B:Assmaster and a Mastotron.

I would say it is a great affordable bass, with good tone options at a great price... If it is what you are looking for. Anyone with a higher level instrument like Pedulla/Ken Smith etc, might be disappointed.

The fretwork was terrible. Perhaps this was the result of this bass having been thoroughly abused at the GC store were I demo'd this bass.

Nope. Bad work at the factory would be my guess.
Unless there was an excessive amount of fret wear, which is totally possible at GC given the amount of people that come in to just jam on their instruments without any intention of buying them.

Best bet....get there the day the new ones do.
Otherwise a few months down the road and they will be used and abused.

I had a MIM Deluxe jazz in sunburst a while back. I ended up pulling the frets myself and LOVED that bass. Unfortunately it ended up getting stolen when my trailer got stolen with most of my music gear in it after a gig one new year's. I was deeply saddened.

But beyond the sadness, I can vouch that they are fantastic instruments!

I love mine, but it's probably my heaviest bass.(2008 model, no idea exact weight)

I like the master volume, pan pot pickup selector especially.

The pickups sound good with the factory preamp and are reportedly weak when used passive. Neck and frets are excellent.

Love the black/rosewood/tort combo but would have done maple if available.

One of my absolute faves — a 2008 in black. The only thing I personally didn’t care for was the tort guard, so I promptly swapped that out with a b/w/b guard from Pickguardian. Added a Hipshot BT7 Xtender for versatility’s sake, and now it’s my go-to bass for almost every gig.
