Fender logos on Squier basses...

everyone-is-now-dumber_zps9d3c0344.jpg

(From "Billy Madison", 1995)

"Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

This was running through my head as I read that post this morning :p

OP-Kudos for not allowing yourself to be sidetracked from your original question. It's honestly amazing how people can spend so much time typing responses without ever having learned to read :rollno:

Any of you who say Squier is just as good as a Fender really have no clue what so ever! You might think it feels good because its the only bass you play. once you play each level of bass Fender makes for any amount of time you can see and feel the quality difference. I suck at bass and I dont have a job yet have 2 selects and 2 AVRI. why because they are much better basses with better fretwork and better fit. only untill I got those basses was I able to get the action low enough to improve. They are so nice they make american standards feel like squiers. So you 18 year olds who put Fender stickers on your squiers can fool yourself and others all you want....but you will still have a $200 indonesian slapped together fret sticking out cheap squier....and until you buy something better you wont know the real difference.
Fender used to just sell Fender and it was hit or miss on quality. now everything is exact. they want you to have that crap bass so you can save up to buy a better bass! and each step up is just that much better quality.
Try playing a squier after playing a select....It feels so awkward and uncomfortable....like a 6 year old indonesian made it.
I am sorry to people who can't afford a better quality bass and have to try and stick up for their squiers saying they are just as nice....but its pretty sad. If I couldnt afford a nice bass and had to play a squier I wouldnt be spouting off how its just as good as an american....that just looks so sad. The reason people look at you funny and dont hire you with a squire is if you cant afford to spend more then $150 on a bass you shouldnt be taken too seriously! If a session musician came in with a squier I would find someone else!

Are nominations for the worst post of 2013 closed?

This is so disgusting I actually doubt you can play a blues scale. Should I now assume that because you have 8 grand worth of basses and no job, that you're a life loser? No? Well, that's exactly what you did assuming someone showing up with a Squier sucks or isn't serious. Literally everyone with more skill than you will pickup a Squier and make you look foolish.

More expensive basses = usually better all around - no debating that. You on the other hand are completely out of line. In our "craft/artform" we get some wood, some pickups, and strings --- what you do with it makes you the player you are.

Perhaps the responses to Dredmadawkus are more proof that TB needs a user rating feature.

Good posts get a + and bad posts get a - and users "rating" is displayed next to his username in every post. Like or dislike, thumbs up or thumbs down... same thing.

Such an awesome idea that will NEVER see the light of day, which is unfortunate.

Over the past 2 years, I have become friends with some of the members of a fairly popular band in eastern North Carolina, and I have seen them play at about a half-dozen outdoor gigs. On several occasions, I have comment on the nice sound the guitar player was getting out of his old Strat. A few weeks ago, the keyboard player posted a band picture on FB. You guessed it, it was a Squier. :hmm:

Now - trying not talking out of my ass too much - cause I dunno the electronics or pickups - but MANY, if not all Squier signature artists play theirs out. I know J Mascis does --- unless they slap a decal on...

Honestly my vm squier j bass plays better than some mia fenders. The 08 and newer mias are great. But I still cant justify paying over 1000$ or more on a bass. Im proud of the squier logo. It also means if someone wants to steal stuff at shows. They will usually pass up "my cheap squier" and steal somebodys nice mia fender...

8 grand worth of basses and no job? My, daddy DOES have a lot of money! Maybe he should have spent it on getting you an education instead, so you could read what this thread was about!

I guess my point is that most people don't even notice the decal. Take my example, for instance. I have been involved with music and bands for over fifty years, but I never noticed that he was using a Squire, until I saw it in a band photo. Why should I expect the average audience to notice? The guy sounded good, and that was all that mattered. The way I see it, if you have a guitar that you like and it's doing the job for you, why worry about the decal. However, if someone wants to change his Squier decal to Fender, have at it, for all I care. To me the argument that it may get sold to some unsuspecting buyer as a Fender doesn't hold water, IMO. For example, I could sell my Squier with a Fender badge, while fully disclosing that it is in fact a Squier. Then, the buyer could turn around and resell it as a Fender. Conversely, I could sell it with the proper Squier Badge, and the buyer could re-badge it and sell it as a Fender. The outcome would be the same either way, and I could do nothing to prevent the fraudulent sale.

Edit: I actually think it is more fair to re-badge a heavily modified Squier to something like Faker or Frankenbass, rather than keep the Squier logo. Would you want some unsuspecting kid to buy a stock Squier bass thinking that it was going to sound and play like your hot rod Squier?

Only because you said "please"
...except that looks like it's you talking. You have to put it inside quote tags showing who said it.

Cut and past this into your sig... but change the XXX to say QUOTE instead.

I've never seen such a stupid post in my few months as a member of TalkBass.

1. You suck at bass yet you own three top of the line basses and have no job? Spoiled, lazy, and taking things for granted.

2. I'm sorry my parents were not as fortunate as yours and I have to buy my own basses rather than mooch off my parents who, like 99% of the world, work their butts off just to survive in this economy.

3. No, the reason people don't hire you is because of your skill level. They could care less about what bass you play. They care about skill and obviously you lack many in the social and common sense department.

4. Who the hell would play with you anyways, a conceited, spoiled, lazy snob. Oh...the words I want to use to describe you but can't because of rules....*painful sob.

You gonna bash me over my MIM Fender? Hmm? Let's see you try.

I suck at bass, have no job, and have Foderas, Sadowskys, Laklands, F Bass, Drozd, and LeCompte basses. Oh yeah, three American Fenders and one Japanese. So roll your eyes once more for me. (I do have a college education, though.)

Does anyone have a clue as to why it is taking so long for the Fender Bass VIs to show up. I ordered mine in on October 7th. I went to Guitar Center today and they don't even have one to show off. My usual bass is a '71 Fender Jazz; I have a Hofner beatle bass with flat wounds on it to get the deep traditional tone. I also have a '39 Kay for Nashville slap, a Jusek for orchestra work and a Clevinger for travel (love it!). Have needed a Fender VI for production studio work as I'm really into 20th Century tic-tac, wanted one for years, but could never find one. I will be installing a mute.
Where the heck are they? I wanted it for Christmas!
