Fender logos on Squier basses...

okay... just to put it out there. Fender sells Fender necks with the logo stickers already imprinted on it. So they don't seem bothered by all this, what's to stop someone from replacing the neck on their Squier bass with a Fender neck? What does the bass then become?
There's no clear answer to all this which is the reason why this thread goes on forever, I don't like stickers, I wouldn't do it myself but everyone has and is entitled to a difference in opinion.
I agree that fraud and selling the bass to some unwary bassist for more money than the bass is worth is an issue. No-one wants to be ripped off. So best I can say is caveat emptor. Buy from a reliable source, do your homework and look for signs of authenticity. If you get to try the bass and absolutely love the feel and sound of it, then who cares what label's on it as long as the price is what you're willing to pay for it.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ....mk...um, what? Is this thread STILL going? OK, yes, it's a great sticker. No, I don't like the practice, for various reasons, but mainly because it's silly. And no, Fender clearly doesn't seem to care as long as its bottom line is not affected, so who cares?

If you want a Fender, buy a Fender. If you can only afford a Squier, buy a Squier. Changing the name on any instrument is a lie. I compare it to wearing a hair piece. Be proud and play the sh※t out of it. It's not what you play, but how you play. My personal opinion is that the only time you should move up in quality is when your playing deserves it.

I think that this (highlighted), although a valid opinion, would cause a major drop in sales for some rather expensive companies!!

I know that I, for one, would be playing a broom handle and a rubber band!

I would just wonder 'who' is 'approving' of when you are ready to step up in quality. Plus, if you have the money, why not learn on something nice.

The Road Worn series - official approval of deceit. You can't have it both ways. So, if you say 'it's just fashion' - you are buying into the deceit (some, literally).

But, no - the decal is worse? In other words, if the manufacturer does it, it's ok - but an individual - heresy!

Remember, the bottom line here is deceit. Amirite?

If I followed that lemma, I'd have only one bass - probably a Squier.

I have a few Fenders and a few Squiers.
I bought them because I liked them then and play them all because I like them now.
Changing the decal on any of them just seems pointless to me. They are what they are and that's that.

Trying to pass a bass off as something else isn't honest (whether it's for sale or not),
If someone is worried about going onstage and being seen with a Squier, then they shouldn't bother.

Instead of the logo´s, maybe someone should come up with a "Headsock", a fashionable piece of clothing for the headstock.

"Mfg. by Trojan ---- We keep you SAFE !!!" Note - one size fits ALL !

PS: Brilliant post !

I guess we can now add "hey look at this photo of my bass collection" to the list of responses that add nothing to the discussion.

There's a few people that have over 20 posts in this thread alone to say "I wouldn't put a Squier sticker on my Fender, and so nobody should". Seems like most could've done that in one post, but no.
