Fender Mellostang bass

I'm really really obsessive about deadspots... maybe it's all in my head
Sorry to hear about the master tone. Did you try resoldering the wires?
I think Fender could use the Mellostang as a template for a new series - and they should start offering the Darkstar in the P series!
It's disassembled right now. I wasn't happy with how the routing came out on the pickguard and was going to make a new tort pickguard but got sidetracked. If I can get around to it, I'll put it back together for some pics.

i modified the body for a easier picking with my right arm
and the strings are thick fender flatwound strings.
first recorded with that bass last month... she'll never gets lost in the mix. i can post a link if you want as soon as the recordings are online in a few weeks... i hope

the darkstar pickup is offered in 4 different pole spacings.

Mine has the DS-1 spacing as well. It depends on where you want it.
Also, in regard to Stinsok's inquiry (sorry, i missed it somehow), it is the stock fiesta red finish.

okay guys, so i know i said i would leave mr. mellostang as is... but i couldn't help myself 
that's a dimarzio model one, complete with a stacked volume pot (one for each pickup), a HAS-sound push-pull tone/dirty rice control, and a coil splitter switch for the dimarzio. the versatility of this bass is now super excellent (which is pretty darn good). Now I just need a black dome knob for the tone/dirty rice pot.
I'll put up some sound clips when i get around to it.

how would you compare the sounds of the darkstar and the dimarzio?
i've owned a ds'ed bass and am familiar, but i've always been curious about that dimarzio model.

love the sound of the dimarzio although if I had to choose between the two... I'll always be loyal to DS's 
as for the sound though -- the humbucker is very similar to a Gibson mudbucker... just a little more definition. all around very nice and full and gooey. however, it is coil-tappable! the single coil mode is really where it's at. again, no dark star, but a unique, very usable tone. when mixed with the dark star though, this pickup really shines. completely one of a kind tone... nothing to compare it to really. I'll post sound clips soon. Stay tuned!

How about a "will power" (model 1 with wider spacing)?
I've actually pondered it, to tell you the truth, but I would really have no use for it. The tone is absolutely perfect as is, in my opinion... also, I was never really a fan of bridge pickups.
Plus, that control cavity is packed to absolute maximum capacity. I've got a stacked pot, a push/pull pot, the mini toggle, and the input -- all in a cavity that was only really big enough for two pots and the input
