Fender MIA vs MIJ in 2024

not to be rude or cause an argument, but please tell us what kind of car do you drive? its it a Honda, Lexus, or Toyota?

Today these J vs A questions are antiquated.

Manufacturing across the globe is united. Maybe China or Philippines or Indonesia might be something to ask this question but even then, QC would assure these worries.

To inquire about Japan?

This is the country that makes Sony, Nintendo, Lexus, etc.

I would trust Japan over the us today on manufacturing.
Nothing rude about the truth.
I recently got into an argument with one of those "Buy American" guys because I bought an MIJ Bacchus Jazz bass instead of a USA-made Fender.
Okay, he 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 drive an F-150, but his wife drives a Nisssn and there's a Toshiba HDTV in his living room. He has a Samsung Galaxy, too.

I’ve only ever owned two MIJ Fenders, can’t speak to today. A Geddy I got in 2003 and played for years and years. Great bass. Also got a red Boxer PJ bass a few years ago. It was pretty good, not on par with the Geddy.

As info, I drive an Infiniti

Here is the advice I give everyone whether it be cars or guitars. When dealing with tiers from manufacturers, whether it be country of origin or what not, doesn’t matter. If you are buying get the top model they have. With Fenders, that means the artist models, ultra/deluxe/etc, reissues, FSRs. They will always be the best in that tier and IMO, better than the standard model in the next tier up.

Want a MIM Fender? If getting standard, grab a Classic Vibe Squier or grab an artist, etc MIM.

Same with cars. If I was looking at the plain Jane model Infiniti Q50, I would rather get the loaded out top trim model Maxima. If want Infiniti, get the Q50 RS400 with all trim options.

Very cool! Pics or it didn't happen. Show that thing off!
I threw on a tortoiseshell pick guard and a vintage bridge. Loving the look! The bridge isn’t sitting flat so I’ll have to figure that out when I string the La Bellas on it.

Perhaps it's due to the colorway and matching head stock. Shipping cost a grip coming from Japan. I was tempted by the matching head stock, we'll see how it plays. Worst case I can sell it and and buy an AM Pro II, I really like this burgundy mist finish.

i've had some MIJs that were real duds. All of them were J basses JB62US, JB75US, and 2 JB62s. theissues were always with the necks and fretwork. One om my Js had a ridiculous radius of well under 5 inches. The P basses have all been great for me. my first bass was an MIJ P and it is still a regular player for me. I've had a couple of other MIJ/CIJ Ps and they all played great.
