Fender mis-names bass IMO

First of all I'd like to thank the Academy, Hells Kitchen, and this Talkbass thread, for helping me waste an hour of my life I will never get back. Of yea and that name thingy, I couldn't care any less. I call mine more by

color, Pink P, Pink J
year, 71' P, 60's P, 60's J
or sometimes model, P Lyte, Power J, Stu Hamm, Road Worn, AVRI, etc.

So, I'm a bit confused. If pickups are not the defining factor, then, two single coils on a P bass body would be...a Precision bass. Because of the body. A split pickup on a jazz bass body, is stil a Jazz bass.



Also, I don't see 'type'. All basses matter. They're all the same. Stop being so divisive!

I think if you come right down to it, a Jazz bass is hardly a "jazz" bass. Wanna talk jazz bass, it'd better look an awful lot like an upright.

But can you play jazz on a 4/4?

I guess since it's 2016 any bass can identify as what ever it wants regardless of body shape or pick up layout.

But to Leo Fender, it was. Bear in mind, the bass was named for the crowd it was supposed to appeal to - jazz double bassists making the transition to electric.

aaaaand the Les Paul was to be a Jazz guitar.
aaaandnd the Stratocaster was intended to be a country guitar.

Is it weird that I actually want one of those reverse body basses? Seriously, I'd rock one of those.

I don't care what my designer friends say ("orange and green should never be seen")...

Interesting that the Jazz neck is so much slimmer than a Precision neck, given that a double-bass' neck is usually quite girthful.


BTW, does a bull-fiddle fit in the back of a Kerflumpkin oh Kay?
