Fender Modern Player Dimension Bass 2013

I have one of the original Dimensions, and it's a great playing bass. I rotate my basses, but it's the first one I reach for. It seems to be Fender's version of the SR series. Now, it appears they simulating the ATK. Everything about these 2 Fenders is different. Perhaps the name Dimension is simply what they are putting on their Ibby clones.

I was in a local store yesterday (UK) and the owner had just put in his orders for the new Modern Player range. Said he was getting in room Jazz basses, and some Mustang and Jaguar guitars, I believe.

These were made available to him, but its a small store and he didn't want to get them not knowing if they'll sell.

He's expecting them in around the start of August, so official announcements shouldn't be far off.

The truss rod wheel is a big win. As far as I'm concerned, all bolt-on basses should have them. Sometimes, a design feature like that just makes so much sense that it's a wonder it hasn't become industry standard by now.

I like the look. Kinda has an "80s Ibanez Roadstar II meets Tele bass" vibe to my eye.

Not sure about the electronics. In the demo, I didn't hear a huge difference between positions 1, 2, 3, and 4 on the rotary. Position 5 (rear coil) was the only one that had a markedly different personality. And I'm definitely not cool with the absence of a tone pot (which is practically the only knob that ever moves in my rig).

All that said, I think it'd make a good platform for mods. (Tone pot and a Darkstar come to mind...)

Wonder how much room is under the pickguard? You could do v/t/switch possibly using the existing pots. Pretty cool.

Big +1 on the truss wheel too. It's a shame more companies don't use it. Wonder why is it a budget thing or is there any issue with the design?
