Thanks Flo! I definitely prefer the JMJ. I did a lot of mods to the PJ (pickups: Seymour Duncan SPB-1 and Apollo Jazz, Fender hi-mass bridge, Hipshot ultralite tuners with drop D tuner, Switchcraft switch and jack, and of course a tort pick guard). It sounds really great but the JMJ wins the prize hands down!

I've never gotten a number either. Can I have one? I've got a 2011 Squier Vintage Modified Mustang. It's been my #1 for about a year. I talk about it all the time, but I've never been numerically recognized. It's in the shop right now for a setup and fret dress, and should emerge more luxurious than ever!

I'd been looking for a while before I found one. I saw it on Reverb for $200 and bought it within minutes, which I never do. It's great. If you see one, get it. It's all Mustang!

I'm optimistic about the Classic Vibe Mustangs that should be coming out next month.

Me too. Though with the constant release date changes, odds are I'll find one of those before I can get a Classic Vibe.

Well, almost. it's actually the Wild Horse Monument off I90 near Wanapum lake in Eastern Washington. Great rest stop and view if you're ever in the neighborhood.

Not to be too nitpicky, but 'remuda' has always seemed more applicable for us, or for me at least. It's generally taken to mean a group of saddle-broke working horses that ranch hands choose from each day or more often as needed. Kinda like me this morning: "Practice today on PBass, Sterling or Mustang? Mustang, Sterling or PBass? MUSTANG!"

I completely understand. For me it is "Hmm, the P-Bass, the Mustang PJ, the SG Standard, or the '69 EB3? The funny thing is usually The Mustang PJ! Now that the search has ended the 50 years of wanting dreaming and drooling over what began it all a new journey has begun to find the perfect amp to run this eclectic collection without a long list of separate and different eq selections. Like picking out the propper mount from the "Remuda" after the current is played out on the Canada to Wyoming drive. ;[)

Thanks Felis. I actually started with a Fender Rumbel 40 v3 when I decided to return to the bass. I actually liked that little monster alot. But then I got the Tim Taylor "MORE POWER" GAS and fell into a great deal on a 500w 4X10 by another manufacturer and sold the Rumble to gentleman with polio as he could move it around.
I am planning to go and look at what the Rumbles of today are like.

That Rumble 40 V3 is a Rumble of today, and considered by many to be the sweet spot of the low power ones. Unless, ... , ... unless you mean you would consider a Rumble LT25 bass modeling amp! Or even the Rumble Studio 40! Why, then you could get any sound you can imagine out of those babies!!

You're all set then. I haven't tried those Dunlops, but maybe next time.

We’ve got pretty similar stables - no wonder we keep bumping into each other!

(In rough order of preference over the years) I’ve got a Precision, an MIJ Mustang, an SG Bass, and a Jazz, plus an acoustic bass.

My all-time favorite is the Precision, though the Mustang has been a revelation and has had long stretches of either being #1 or co-#1. Lately however, after a recent pickup change, I’ve actually been playing my SG bass the most

A lot of it simply comes down to location and where I have the time/energy to play and/or people to play with - I’ve got my P at my house in the country, my Mustang in my shared practice space I rent, and my SG and acoustic bass in my little apartment by work in the city. Lately I’ve been kind of apartment-bound due to some health nonsense and the SG has the new pickup in it to check out, so the SG has been getting the nod over the acoustic

Meanwhile, I do hope to start slowly getting back to the P and Mustang again as the year wraps up. Gotta get back to my practice space!

Quick note of thanks to everyone regarding the Mustang tone and coming from a P bass. I realized that the tonal things that were different were the things that I loved. Why would I want to change that? I'll just tell the guitar player to turn up a tiny bit more if I'm drowning him out. LOL

I guess I should post the family pick. I also own a JMJ. I love Mustang basses... should have joined this group LONG ago.

Happened across this by accident on the Fender site yesterday. The direct link to the product page showed this, but you couldn't select it as a color – only get to it via direct link from a Google search. It has since been taken down, and I can find no trace of it online. I am thinking yet another dealer exclusive, this time in Shoreline Gold. Yet at the same time, Fender did their standard product photography of the bass, which they normally would not do for a dealer exclusive, correct? If that is the case, might be a new standard PJ color coming up.

Whatever the case, I WANT IT.

That said, they should have gone with a black guard IMO.

I really wish that Fender would some day get their Mustang Bass "reissues" correct in terms of the fretboard. AFAIK, they've never bothered to included the correct Round-Lam board on Mustangs (basses or guitars), but have always opted for the older style slab boards that weren't used on Mustang Basses. It's the number one impediment to me getting a JMJ as the base for a refin project. It's all done up to look like a '60s Mustang Bass...except it obviously isn't...and it isn't something the user can fix to be more accurate. There has simply never been an accurate reissue of a Mustang Bass neck. It's the big thing that turns me off from buying a new Fiesta Red Vintera as well. I have several Mustang Basses now, but none are the very close reissue of an original that I actually want.
