Hey All-You-Mustang-Lovers,
I just got myself a little Mikey Way Squier Mustang Bass! And I must say I love it. The sound, the feel, the quality...all is pretty good. Love the sound of the pickup. I play with Fuzz-On-All-The-Time and the sound is really Lemmy-Like, the pickup is really good . no feedback at all. Love it.

Congrats! Man I love that silver sparkle! I’ve wanted to pick one of those up for a long time. Enjoy it!
I got the factory settings for the Vintera Mustang Bass: E - 3/32" G - 2/32". Quite high but according to a tech at Fender, the specs for the Mustang guitar and bass are the same.
It is a really good bass. If I had not played it myself I would not believe it. It is a fine Bass. Love the paintjob...and the neck....and the Pickup.

Although the Mustang is a short-scale bass, you need to buy medium-scale strings since it’s strung through the body.
These work well on a Mustang, although some may find them a little too "warm' for their music or their taste. They can nearly sound upright bass-like depending on how your tone/equalization settings are. They are completely noiseless and really a pleasure to play.
I agree, I use them on all my basses including my MIJ Mustang and 2 Mustang P/Js

I have been looking for one for quite a while. I like the idea of a short scale with a single humbucking pickup, passive electronics and just volume and tone controls.
Few years ago I modded a Squier Bronco, then stupidly sold it, and now back to the Bronco with almost the same mods.
Schaller 3D bridge, Schaller BM Light tuners, custom b/w/b pickguard, Fender strap locks.
Pickup is the EMG passive TBHZ, great tone and totally noiseless.
I also have a Mustang PJ but I somewhat tend to prefer the simplicity of the Bronco.
On both basses I put D'Addario ECB81S short scale flatwounds, those are my favorite strings.

I've never spent much time on a Mustang before, but have always thought, like so many people heh, they look cool, and certainly I've heard great-sounding ones.
Recently I discovered this puppy:
Fender Offset Series Mustang Bass PJ Shell Pink w/Mint Pickguard (CME Exclusive) Pre-Order
...and it's been on my mind nonstop. I'm thinking of trading off my old reliable Washburn Taurus with DiMarzio Model Js for a bit of cash since it lives in its gig bag, and videos are showing the J pickup can really influence the tone on the PJ Mustang...something I'd need if I wanted to put this to work in a similar range of settings.
So, it seems to sound nice, the price is NOT bad, it looks just killer (I'm shallow! but have wanted a cool shell pink bass for a long time), has neck specs that'll work fine, and evidently doesn't weigh a ton.
Short scale will be a transition, but I can just think of it as playing further up the neck on a 24-fretter.
Whatcha think? Should I start seriously considering joining this here fine club??

Well, before going further, please consider that you’ll have to prepare the membership fee - submission of a photo of your very own shell pink Mustang bass
I really like mine, and you’re going to find a ton of people who feel the same way. I will say that despite the fact that I switched to short scale due to necessity, it was a super easy switch, and I actually started playing different licks when I switched too. You know those go-to things you play when you’re messing around? I have different ones. And when I do pick up my long scale basses, it feels so foreign. So upside, these are awesome basses and you’ll expand your playing and palate with one. The downside is that you might stick with it more than you expected. Do it.
I was thinking about the Same Bass. I Love the color. But I played some of the "new" J/P Mustang Basses and they sound and feel different compared to the 'old' Bridge and pickups from the old ones.

Absolutely! I just recently bought the butterscotch blonde CME exclusive Mustang and couldn't be happier! Like you, I've played nothing but long scale until now. Transition has been pretty easy and am quickly getting VERY used to short scale and I'm really loving it. Has been great for the quarantine practice time - can't wait until I can get back with my bandmates and see how she sounds in the mix.
That pink is way cool!
Though my short scale is not a Fender I go back and forth between 30.5” and 34” without a second thought. Actually string spacing when plucking is what I find to be the biggest difference. I have to control my right hand a bit more.
