Oh, and I forgot to send this here but here's a video of my band and I playing, with me using my american performer 
I put together this comparison chart showing the different Mustang models. Might be helpful to some:
IMO, The Player looks like the best value if you can handle having Precision/Jazz pickups and 1.5" nut.
For traditional, not sure why one would want a Vintera over a JMJ unless the Road Worn bothers you.

Funny how even the American Performer boasts the "professional gigbag" that it comes with. It's really quite disappointing, as after travelling for only a couple of weeks (which includes taking flights and airport stuff) the straps started fraying and I could feel the padding for the bottom strap button give out. They should really offer something more for an instrument that people are spending $1300 for.
Yup. The gig bag for the JMJ was pretty thin and not a short scale bag. It was immediately upgraded to a MONO. Fender has proven they can make a lame bag. Could they at least make it fit the bass?
I think the Japanese Fender Mustangs vary a fair bit spec wise...partially due to how long they made them for and how many versions there were. They at minimum have a 65, 69 and 73 version. Mine is a '65 reissue from the late 90s or early 2000's and has a 1.625 nut, 7.25 radius, string through body, vintage frets (or maybe well worn larger since I got it used), fiesta red poly with white pearloid guard, rosewood fretboard and either basswood or poplar body I believe.
I'm sure others have examples with at least slightly different specs.
My 2012 MIJ has 7.25 radius and 1.5" neck.

Does the JMJ come with both pickguards out of the box, or do you have to pick one for it to come with? Cause if it does, that's pretty cool. Those things aren't super common and most don't match unless you have one for the specific model you're trying to put it on. You could sell the one that you don't want and put that money towards a better gigbag

The black model does come with both, the black pickguard is in the gig bag. I don’t know if the blue does.
