Just for the record: the tshirt says Mustang Bass and shows a drawing of a fiesta red Mustang bass.
Its tight i admit, but i have my jmj in that exact case. The headstock just pushes into the foam on that end, i sometimes have to turn the g tuner a bit to fit nicely.

IIRC, the earliest P basses had that width of nut too.
And they looked like what later became the Tele bass.
Coincidence ?
BTW, my Ric 4001 has a 1.6875" [1+11/16"] nut width, as I believe that they all did.
That's why I prefer wider at the nut, even in a short scale bass.
And the 1982 medium scale Ibanez RS721TR bass which I bought last year has a 1.75" nut width.

Yeah, the headstocks on these are all beat up from factory, a little ding from case wouldn't bother me, lol

I don't think that we discussed the other specs of the bass at the time, as my main interest was whether the necks and bodies of that and your Musicmasters were similar enough that they might be interchangeable with each other, and the bodies with various other necks, and our conclusion was that for the most part, yours looked to qualify among themselves at least.
But knowing more of the specs of that Mustang now, I'd say that I want one.

Do any Vintera owners know where one would be able to acquire replacement intonation screws? Or have the exact measurements of theirs? I'd appear to have stripped the head of the screw holding the A saddle, and not even fender's tech support's been of much help in figuring out what exactly to do

If you can’t find a replacement screw, and the head is not too far gone, I would use a dremel and cut one of the slots deeper and fully across to allow use of a flat-head screwdriver. The screw heads are hidden by the lip on the bridge anyway.
Update on strings for my Squier Mustang - I replaced the stock strings with the colored ball ends with DR Legend flats - they were very nice and felt a lot like GHS Precision Flats. I decided I needed more attack and installed a set of old GHS Boomers - again really nice but still not quite there. I remembered that my old Jerry Jones short scale basses had that tone and were always wearing D'Addario XL's so I bought a medium set today and yep, thats the tone I'm looking for! The ball ends are different colored than the Fender stock strings and the feel and tone is much better. Well worth the $20 price.
Had our first band practice in 6 months or so this week, and the Mustang got the nod while loading the car. Played it for 3 hours straight for the first time in a long time, and I think it's pretty safe to say it's my #1.
I did swap out the tuners for HB10s and the bridge for a hi mass, but all electronics are stock. I don't use the bridge pickup at all, it was nice to be reminded of how punchy the P pup is. Sounded great, I did consider swapping it but think that would have just been excessive tinkering from not playing out.
Most importantly, I just have fun playing this bass!
