been in the same boat lately, loving the neck on my mustang but hating the body! does anyone know of any other options to pair a mustang bass neck with?

That's going to be a toughie, barring major woodwork (I think).
I know you've done a lot of modding and building, so I'm sure you know, but I was doodling with similar thoughts and I think the Mustang (and I think Bronco and Musicmaster) neck pocket dimensions are unique to these models.

Standard Fender Guitar neck pocket width: 2 3/16" width
Standard Fender Bass neck pocket width: 2 1/2" width
Mustang Bass (Bronco?, Musicmaster?) width: 2 1/4" width

And the pocket length and configuration are different as well.

thanks, thats what Ive been figuring from scouring the forums here that the Mustang/Musicmaster neck build is bespoke, so appreciate you sharing your work to confirm. I may consider a custom built body down the line then.

Hi dear Mustang fan fellowship.
I just did a partstang project from 60s/70s parts and it plays beautifully. The body is a refin 74/75 and came with original shealds, but the upper horn and curve of the body reminds more to p bass then a mustang. i’m no mustang historian, but i’ve never seen one like this. it’s the coolest thing ever. Do you reckon someone modded it back them?

The pickup cover looks great on your bass! I had ordered one for my next build, which is sitting in pieces around the house. I just quit my band, so I'm feeling a bit "down-hearted" as B.B. says, and just can't get motivated to finish it.

I had seen one previously in an old thread during a google search. The poster doesn't appear to be active anymore and I was going to "steal" his idea. Now I'll steal yours!!

It looks similar to an idea I had... buy both a p bass template and a mustang and put a p bass upper horn on a mustang. It looks real similar to that. I'd guess custom if we're betting

Saw a mustang that had white pickup covers with a pearloid pick guard. I love how it looks! Anybody looking to offload some aged white / cream pickup covers? Looking for the vintage size.

Ran into something new for me. I bought one of the limited edition American Performer Honey Burst Mustangs. I played it at home for a couple of days before taking it in for a setup. The luthier took a look at it and said I should take it back. He was right. The neck had a slight twist to it I didn’t look for when buying it but could see when looking down the bridge.

Thankfully, another Guitar Center in town had one, so I was able to easily exchange it. They were very nice. Nice silver lining is the wood grain on the replacement is better looking than the defect.

Joining the club, had a small ding on it so the shop took a bunch off but it's a left over 2020 I think, American Performer Mustang. Debating between leaving the rounds or putting on flats. I have a P bass already with flats though so I'm torn.

Keep the rounds! I had changed out to flats on mine and hated them! I put Ernie Ball Super Slinky’s on mine and msn I love the sound! My band mates agree with me as well. Super punchy and really cuts through the mix!

Agreed on rounds for the Mustang. I like really old rounds on mine, similar vibe to flats but a lot more versatile when necessary.

I put Gabriel Tenorio pure nickel rounds on mine and they sound fantastic.

I would have to strip it to be 100% sure if a modd had been done. Its a mistery for sure since every other parts of the body line perfectly for that era of mustang

I'd say enjoy it then! It's weird for sure but I personally really enjoy that. I bet that it sits more comfortable on a strap with that extended horn too!
