Thanks! It's a Japan reissue. My only bass at the moment, upgraded the electronics & Aero Type 4A pickup, paired with La Bella Deep Talkin' flats! Considering a refinish in Lake Placid Blue or Blue Sparkle (for a full 'space travel' experience :D) with added body contours in the future.

Somebody will be along with some actual data in a minute. From memory the nut on mine was the same as a Jazz bass and the frets were small. Like thin guitar frets really.

I picked this up last weekend and I really like it! I took the rounds off and put on some short scale Chromes. I hate the way Chromes sound out of the box, but after playing around for just a couple hours It's starting to mellow out really nice. I had to adjust the saddles back quite a bit (after this picture) and it still doesn't quite intonate perfectly, so I might move the bridge back slightly, or I might just leave it because it's pretty close. Either way, it's a keeper! I'll take a number!

I tried my best (this is my 4th shortie attempt), but I guess being tall and lanky, shortie necks just aren’t comfy for me. I liked the mustang better than the Gretsch, Epi, and squier I tried, but I just can’t physically bond with them. I seem to have that prob with jazz necks too. I really wanted to keep her as she matches my old Japanese p bass, but it would just be a wall hanger.

I know it's a little late for an answer, but I just saw this - I have a CIJ Mustang reissue, and IMO/IME, it's tone sits kind of between a P Bass and a Jazz bass - and it works really well for anything either of those two iconic basses are suited for... I was pleasantly surprised when I played it thru an amp for the first time - it sounds WAY bigger than it's physical size would lead you to believe...

Edited to add: My "go to" is typically a P Bass, with a Jazz being next up - the couple times I gigged my Mustang, I didn't feel I was missing anything, and quite possibly gaining something - it sat great in the mix, yet had some authority as well....
