Also, I sorta like Flats but almost always go back to round wounds. The Mustang PJ is supposed to have a deeper fatter bottom maybe do to the scale making the strings feel looser?

I got the Sonic Blue which isn't my fav but the other colors don't trip my trigger .. so .. I would like to change the pick guard to maybe a Tort or Black .. let me know whatcha think. Any pictures would be nice if you have any with the Sonic Blue and different pg beside the Mint. I've read the Mint throughs off the blue quite a bit.

I think that a tort or black pickguard would look good!

My favorite strings are TI Jazz Flats (which come in both long and short scale), though they aren't cheap...

I use D'Addario ETB92S Nylon Tapewounds on my Mustang PJ. For what I've seen on mine, short scale strings fit it well.

Seconded. That Rumble 40 is a terrific little amp for not much $. Sounds really nice w/the Mustang.

I was going to do a tort p/g from WD but after I saw your bass I ordered a BWB .. mine is Sonic Blue. Your PJ looks great .. I have a little green envy LOL

OK, so I've been playing me little green beauty (getting in St Paddy's day mood) for a month now, mostly for practice but also in some jams (straight-up jazz and cheesy 70s-80s rock) and just love it. Got a nice set of GHS Precision Flats on it, getting nicely broken in (G was a bit shrill at first but has settled in nicely).

I haven't gigged with it yet - still using my P bass primarily - but it will see use this $ummer.

BUT - I do have one issue I need to address - the switch. No, it works just fine, no quality issue. It's the location. I have tripped it accidentally half-a-dozen times while playing and only realized it when I noticed the sound had changed to bridge pu only. Need to replace it with a 3-way rotary switch I can't bump.

And then put three matching chrome knobs on it. And a new pick guard. And a new paint job. (after St Paddy's day).

Yeah... my 'affordable" bass... :rolleyes:

I picked this up last weekend and I really like it! I took the rounds off and put on some short scale Chromes. I hate the way Chromes sound out of the box, but after playing around for just a couple hours It's starting to mellow out really nice. I had to adjust the saddles back quite a bit (after this picture) and it still doesn't quite intonate perfectly, so I might move the bridge back slightly, or I might just leave it because it's pretty close. Either way, it's a keeper! I'll take a number!

Just broke down and bought this same bass...the PJ in white for my back up to my beloved JMJ Mustang. To get her ready for action, I ordered an aged white (w/b/w lamination) pickguard from WD Music, TI Jazz Flat strings, Schaller strap locks, and a Fender Artisan crafted leather strap (2"). Pix coming once I get her all put together. I'm thinking the perfect name for her will be, "Snowflake!"

Neck dive problems Mustangers?

I used to prefer to use vintage style leather straps, the kind that have the shoulder pad, but they just don't work well on the Mustang, and the bass is much harder to play due to the neck dive.

I picked up a Fender Artisan crafted leather strap on Amazon (I go the 2", but they also have 2.5"), and it works perfectly. Looks great, feels great, even smells great (as odd as that sounds). Not cheap, but good!

Those Squier Mikey Way Mustangs were a fabulous value. And very cool looking. I had one, but gave it away cheap to a friend who deserved a better bass than what she was finding for the money she could spend.

I missed it so much I bought one of the new PJs. But I wish Fender was still making the Pawnshop Mustangs. I really like the humbucker on a Mustang.

This was an issue when I first had mine. The switch sticks out rudely far. I dealt with the problem by finding a second mounting nut and threading this onto the switch to that it sits behind the pickguard as a stand-off of sorts. This makes the switch sit lower on the surface:

I get my new WD Music pickguard next week, but I've grown oddly attached to my DIY pickguard here!
