Fender Nate Mendel P-Bass

I have not much experience with playing different basses. Actually, the Nate is my first bass.

For me the neck is more comfortable in comparison to the road worn series P bass (I played this in my local guitar shop before). Although I have relatively big hands I prefer the slim Nate neck over the fat RW neck. Have a look to the specs of both basses on the Fender web site. The necks are quite different in feel. If you like the slim J bass neck you might get happy with the Nate Mendel P bass.

Most of the Fender basses have a gloss lacquer that causes the hand to stick to the back of the neck when playing. They have recently switched to a matte finish on the Am Standard series which helps but the back of the neck of the Road Worn series is sanded and "reliced" giving it what I will call for lack of a better term "broken in". It has a soft smooth feel and the hand glides freely unlike the gloss finished neck. Is the Nate Mendel treated in this manner?

Alright, I got you.

The neck of the Nate Mendel has a gloss lacquer finish. To be honest, I do not remember the finish of the RW bass but I remember the finish of the American Standard P bass which really felt good.

Personally I am fine with the glossy neck as I normally only touch the back of the neck with my thumb. However, if I would have the choice I would go for the matte finish, but...

Maybe you can get an idea on the surface by this picture. You can see the shiny finish here which is not too sticky in my opinion.

I'm NOT a Mendal fan, but I am a very P-bass person through & through, and this P has all the features that I want in a P.

The thing is that I bought a new Ibanez Premium ATK800E less than 2-week ago, but I keep thinking of returning it for this Nate Mendal P-Bass.
And this thread is really causing a severe G.A.S.

Should I keep my Ibby, or should I return it and get this Mendal P???
Dang...

The FF is a pretty cute idea. +1 Fender

Of course return the Ibanez and get the Mendel P! :bassist:

Seriously, aren't you happy with the Ibanez? What is it exactly that makes you G.A.S.-ing for the Mendel P?

BTW, I am not such a big Mendel fan either!
Yes I am happy with that Ibanez.
But like I said, I am a P person to the core and no bass bonds with me better than a Fender P.
(Never had a bad experience with a P.)

So it's not like I have an issue with this Ibby.
But this Mendel P keeps calling my name...

The reason I have G.A.S. for this Mendal P, other than the fact that ii is a good looking P, is because it has features that I really like in a P.
Ash body, nitro finish, Q-pounder Pup, very slightly narrower than normal P nut width, neck tint, etc...
